I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor working with adults who want to better understand themselves and improve the relationship they have with themselves and others.
People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, anger, or relationship difficulties. You may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward following a personal or global event. Whatever brings you to therapy, I aim to offer a compassionate, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings safely.
Reaching out for support can be a meaningful step toward growth and change. Together we can work to develop greater self-understanding, strengthen your sense of self, and help you move toward a more fulfilling and authentic life.
My practice is integrative, meaning I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to support each client’s individual needs. My work is grounded in a person-centred philosophy, which recognises each person’s natural capacity for growth and healing when supported within a safe and trusting relationship.
I see therapy as a collaborative process. Rather than an “expert and patient” dynamic, I view the therapeutic relationship as a meeting between two people, working together to understand your experiences and what might support change.
In our sessions, we may explore both your present experiences and earlier life events that may have shaped the way you think, feel and relate to others today. I also encourage awareness of bodily sensations and emotional responses, which can help develop greater understanding and regulation of feelings.
My work is trauma-informed and draws from a number of perspectives, including Transactional Analysis, Gestalt Therapy, Existential Therapy, attachment theory, neurobiology, mindfulness and meditation.
At times I may also incorporate creative approaches in therapy, such as guided imagery, meditation, therapy cards, or working with materials like clay to help explore feelings that can be difficult to put into words.
While I often work relationally over the longer term, I also offer shorter-term therapy depending on your needs.
I trained as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor at the Northern Guild and am a member of both UKCP and the BACP, working in accordance with their ethical frameworks.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked extensively in artistic, cooperative and community settings. I have also worked as a wellbeing artist with a charity supporting access to arts and culture for disabled people in the North East. This experience informs my understanding of the connections between personal wellbeing, creativity and the wider social systems we live within.
I aim to offer an inclusive and welcoming space for people of all backgrounds, regardless of race, sexuality, gender identity, class or religion.
I work with clients on Monday afternoons, throughout the day on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and on Friday mornings. I offer some early evening sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
I offer face-to-face sessions from my office in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, alongside online therapy. While I am based in the North East, I have close links to the South West and work online with clients in Bristol and across the UK who value the option of seeing a therapist outside their local area.
