My recent trek to Mount Sagarmatha (Everest) Base Camp highlighted clear parallels between navigating a demanding physical journey and my professional life. In both settings, success depends on careful preparation, a trusted guide, and safe acclimatisation, all of which are crucial to building a strong foundation.
For over 20 years, I have served as a dedicated guide in mental health as a skilled and passionate Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist (UKCP Reg & MBACP).
My work involves charting personal paths through individual therapy, providing professional oversight through clinical supervision, and sharing foundational knowledge through lecturing. I have extensive experience establishing and leading mental health services in both private practice (Best Start Therapy) and educational settings.
As an educator, I currently serve as a Lecturer in Counselling at Boston College and a Course Facilitator at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute, where I deliver training programmes, workshops, and skills sessions. I consider myself an effective and compassionate leader by ensuring the safety of those I guide, the professional equivalent of a Sherpa on the mountain.
My strong interest in safeguarding is central to this commitment, supported by my current pursuit of an MSc in Child Protection and Adult Safeguarding and by my service as a magistrate in the family court, which reflects my commitment to child welfare. Furthermore, as a serving member of the BACP private practice committee, I help map out best practices for the wider profession. Just as Base Camp prepares the body for altitude, my practice focuses on safe, measured acclimatisation. I guide clients and students through a gradual process of adjustment to new emotional and intellectual perspectives, ensuring stability as they continue their journey.

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
