I find offering one therapeutic approach is limited because people and their contexts are complex and often require different combinations of therapeutic approaches to fit around their specific individual needs and to help them better address their issues and challenges. Therefore, I often use a blend of psychotherapies: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Strength-based Approaches, Somatic and Systemic Psychotherapy (with individuals and couples), and where appropriate, Couples Therapy.
I provide therapy mainly to individuals and also couples. I am trained in a number of different psychotherapies, including: cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapy, EMDR Therapy, emotion focused therapy, couples therapy, systemic psychotherapy, narrative therapy and others. I was previously an NHS Psychotherapist for 20 years and, for 10 of these, a supervisor and tutor on the South of Scotland Postgraduate Cognitive Therapy Training Course. Also, for many years, I trained psychiatrists and clinical psychologists in psychotherapies. I have helped thousands of clients to successfully overcome a wide range of difficulties of varying severity and complexity. As I've had the privilege to witness and experience it so many times, I know that the human spirit can be truly amazing and together we can flourish.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
