As a psychodynamic psychotherapist I believe our emotional difficulties in the present often have their roots in the past. In response to difficult and painful early life experience we can develop unhelpful coping mechanisms, self-destructive ways of being and relating which we unconsciously carry with us into adulthood, keeping us stuck in the same negative cycles and preventing us from becoming our fulfilled, authentic selves.
Therapy offers us a space to begin to explore and understand this, to develop a capacity to relate to our personal narrative, our stories, experiences, memories, relationships, feelings and beliefs in a more reflective yet active way, leading to greater awareness, fresh insight, self-acceptance and the possibility of lasting, positive change and transformation.
At a 1 hour initial consultation you can tell me about yourself and what is making you think about therapy now. You can ask questions and get a sense as to whether you would feel comfortable working with me going forward. If you decide to proceed we would find a mutually convenient time to meet each week for a therapy session lasting 50 minutes. I usually suggest an open-ended arrangement which allows time for issues to emerge and be worked on in some depth. I also offer time limited therapy arrangements of 12/16 weeks if there are practical reasons why you cannot commit to open-ended sessions or if you would like to work with a specific focus.
I am a fully qualified psychotherapist, offering you a safe, calm, confidential and non-judgemental space to talk.
