My Approach

I’m a UKCP-registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and trainer, specialising in Gestalt therapy – a creative, relational approach that goes beyond “just talking” and works with your whole self: body, emotions, thoughts, relationships and imagination. In our sessions we might pay attention to how feelings show up in your body, use gentle creative methods (such as visualisation or working with an image or phrase) to shift stuck patterns, and engage in honest two-way dialogue to help you reconnect with your own voice. This kind of whole-person, experiential therapy can be especially helpful if you’ve tried more traditional talk therapy and now want something deeper and more embodied.

About Me

I specialise in working with adults who are navigating big life transitions, often as a result of trauma. I work with grief, loss, sexual trauma, break-ups and burnout, and the big questions these experiences bring: Who am I now? What really matters? How can I live with more authenticity?

You might be stuck in familiar relationship patterns, swinging between wanting closeness and more connection and then finding yourself overwhelmed and wanting to withdraw. You may struggle to set boundaries and ask for what you need, never feeling good enough or constantly comparing yourself to others.

I know how deeply exhausting this can be. In my teens and early twenties I struggled with depression, low confidence and a painful sense of not being “good enough”. I also lost a parent at this time. This set me on a long personal exploration, mainly through Buddhist practice. I now draw on around 20 years of Buddhist practice and teaching in my therapy work, using meditation, mindfulness and compassion-focused practices where they’re helpful. There’s no expectation that you have any particular beliefs – we’ll work with whatever is real and important for you.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

In addition to my private practice, I provide therapeutic support within hospice settings, assisting individuals who are bereaved or facing profound, life-limiting illnesses. Many clients have expressed that our work together has helped them process complex emotions, difficult memories, and deep-seated patterns. By fostering practical skills, resilience, and a renewed sense of confidence, I help each person discover a way forward that truly aligns with them.
Before formal psychotherapy training, I undertook a long personal exploration of my own, mainly through Buddhist practice, but also in other Eastern and Western spiritual traditions. After six years of Buddhist training, including many meditation and study retreats, I was ordained into the Buddhist tradition and given the name Vidyapala (Protector of Wisdom) I have brought my 20 years of Buddhist practice into my therapy, utilising meditation, mindfulness and compassion-focused practices to help my clients. I have experience and a particular interest in working with people who may be confronting spiritual or religious problems or crises, encountering difficulties in their spiritual practices, or who may be struggling to integrate a significant spiritual or anomalous experience into their daily life. Although, my training has been in the Buddhist tradition, your way of making sense of your experience is always our point of reference.
