I am very much a 'relational' type therapist as I believe the magic of therapy happens between the quality of the relationship of the therapist and client. am not a passive therapist. Whilst we do dig into the messy bits, I am also an advocate that we focus as much on your strengths and what works for you. Therapy does not always need to be about the negative, spending all out time in tears, sadness and grief. We can celebrate the good parts and laugh along the way. I am quite active in my interventions, spotting patterns, challenging with curiosity and empathy, setting tasks etc. I want you to be in h driving seat of where we go. My job is to create a safe place that you can talk into, feel held, supported, seen and understood.
I am a Psychologist by training, but spent 25+ years in corporate consulting. I then qualified as a master Practitioner in NLP, trained as an executive coach, followed up with an MSC in Change Agency Skills & Strategy before finally completing the 6 years to become a fully qualified Integrative Psychotherapist. I have been married for 40 years and have 4 grown up children (two of which were born deaf). I am still an active rower in my spare time. I think my two key points of difference is 1) Being a coach I can both help unblock past issues but also help work with you about creating the future you want and deserve. Secondly, since I worked in the highly demanding field of consulting, I understand the stresses, politics , toxicity and performance pressures that organisations heap on people.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
