I work relationally and integratively, drawing on psychodynamic, humanistic and existential approaches. Integrative psychotherapy recognises that no single way of understanding people fits everyone and allows me to adapt my work to the individual sitting in front of me.
I believe that many of our present struggles emerge within the context of our earlier experiences and relationships, often in ways that may be outside our conscious awareness. Together we can begin to notice patterns that may have developed over time and explore how they continue to shape thoughts, feelings, relationships and ways of being in the world.
The relationship that develops between therapist and client is central to my work. I see therapy as a collaborative process where difficult feelings and experiences can be thought about safely and where greater understanding can gradually emerge.
I work with adults experiencing a wide range of concerns and welcome clients from all backgrounds and walks of life.
Alongside my one-to-one psychotherapy practice, I am also developing an original creative-psychological approach for actors, writers and directors which explores character, motivation, emotional truth and the inner life of creative work. This is a separate area of work and distinct from psychotherapy itself.
I am an integrative psychotherapist working with adults in Central London, West London and online.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than four decades working as a filmmaker in television, directing documentaries and drama. Throughout my working life I was drawn to understanding people's inner worlds and the experiences that shape them. Much of my work involved spending time with individuals facing adversity, trauma, conflict, loss and profound life challenges. Becoming a therapist felt like a natural progression from witnessing people's stories to using my training and experience to help them make sense of themselves and their relationships.
My professional and personal life experiences have given me a deep appreciation of the complexities, challenges and unexpected turns that life can bring. I understand that people arrive in therapy with very different histories and circumstances, and I aim to meet each person with curiosity, compassion and respect.
My experiences have also given me a particular sensitivity to questions of identity, difference and belonging. I understand that many people can experience feeling outside, between worlds, unseen, or somehow different from those around them, even when this may not be obvious from the outside. These experiences can shape how we relate to ourselves and others in subtle but powerful ways.
People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, loss, low self-esteem, identity questions, life transitions, or a sense of feeling stuck or disconnected from yourself. You may also simply feel that something is not quite right, even if it is difficult to put into words.
I aim to provide a thoughtful, warm and accepting space where we can explore together what may be happening beneath the surface and work towards a greater understanding of yourself and your relationships.
Alongside my psychotherapy practice, I have a longstanding interest in creativity and the inner life, and have particular experience working with people in creative fields including actors, writers, filmmakers and artists.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
