My Approach

Finding a therapist can feel daunting and confusing specially when you are dealing with the pressures of daily life. I offer a safe and confidential place where I will not judge you but help you to make good choices for yourself. Each person is unique and I draw on several approaches to find the best way to work with my clients. My work and my training is integrative using humanistic, transpersonal and creative ways of working with my clients in order to achieve the best results.

I am currently working both online and face to face. I offer both short term and long term psychotherapy/counselling.

About Me

Hello, my name is Nicole and I have over twenty years experience working as an integrative counsellor/psychotherapist. I am based in West Hampstead. Currently, I am working online as well as face to face. I work holistically, taking into account all the dimensions that make us human. Stress and pain can cause us to shut down some aspects of ourselves causing anxiety, depression and confusion. My way of working has you at the heart of it, and my aim is to help you to develop the qualities that you need to make changes, to understand, and face your life challenges. Talking therapy can provide space and time to examine troubling concerns with the hope of developing a better understanding of yourself in order to achieve a productive life and a better relationship both with yourself and others.

An initial consultation does not mean any commitment to therapy; it's an opportunity to meet and explore what is troubling you and see if we can work together. As well as my training as a therapist, I worked in a residential treatment centre for addictions for sixteen years. I was also involved for 8 years in coordinating a project for domestic abuse, working with survivors of domestic violence of all genders.

I work with many issues so do check my website.

I have completed the UKCP Covid-19 Online Working Guidance course.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I worked in a residential treatment for addiction for 16 years. This has helped me to understand dependency and the root of its causes. My belief is that addiction is an adoptive response to unwanted negative feelings and a search for a resolution and an escape from an emotional wound. I can help you to examine the problems that this has been causing pain in your life by looking at past and present difficulties. Our goal working together is to restore you to healthy functioning and enable you to have better relationships with others and with yourself. I will help you to gain a better understanding of yourself, and help you to develop some strategies for maintaining sobriety.
Anxiety can be crippling. Are you feeling down? Do you feel as if life is getting on top of you? Are you fed up with the same old problems repeating themselves in your life? Would you like to make changes but are unsure how? There are many people who experience anxiety and panic from time to time. Most people can relate to feeling tense, uncertain, and even fearful. Perhaps this may be the thought of sitting an exam, going to hospital, starting a new job, being made redundant, feeling lonely or being single. These worries can affect your sleep, your appetite, your ability to concentrate. If you worry more than others, it could be because of your personality, your sensitive nature, current circumstances or past childhood experiences. If these feelings are overwhelming, then therapy can help you. I have been working with stress, anxiety and depression for many years. With your cooperation, I can help you get your life back to being manageable. Together we can challenge your negative self beliefs and assumptions about yourself and encourage you to follow your dreams. I can help you to understand and manage your anxieties. I can help you to confront and tolerate your fears by helping you to understand where your anxiety originates from and help you to create a new perspective on things. Relaxation and mindfulness techniques can help you relax and break the cycle. Together we can look at your negative thinking patterns and reframe them in a more positive and healthy framework for better living, This can lead to a more positive future. Therapy can help you to make that change happen.
Depression is a deep unpleasant feeling of emptiness and despair that can last a long time. The feeling can make it difficult to function in every day life as you have been used to doing. There are things that you once enjoyed and people around you that you once loved, that no longer interest you. The symptoms of depression may cause extreme tiredness and exhaustion. These feelings often make you anxious as well. You may ask yourself if you can cope with life. There are many factors that contribute to depression: loneliness, loss, recent stressful experiences, painful childhood issues, trauma, abuse, difficult situations at work, lack of support, financial strain, alcohol and dug abuse. Let me help you work through and understand the roots and causes of your depression. This will help you to understand the way you feel and what you can do to feel better. I have been working successfully with depression and anxiety for many years.
I have 8 years experience coordinating a service for domestic abuse. I can offer a specialist support for people of all genders experiencing domestic abuse or who are still experiencing the effects of it. Therapy can help you to reflect on your situation more clearly. It can help you to explore your feelings in a safe environment with a therapist who will not judge you or tell you what to do. It will help you to consider your options in order to help you regain control over your life, and to make your own decisions. It will help you to keep physically and emotionally safe. Domestic violence is the emotional, verbal, physical, financial and/or sexual abuse that happens between adults who have been or are in a relationship together or between family members regardless of gender or sexuality. It can be very subtle and taking the first step by having therapy can lead to change and empowerment.
I have for many years worked with survivors of sexual abuse, both individually and facilitating survivors groups. Abuse may have been experienced as an adult or as a child. Those who have experienced abuse or sexual violence and trauma whether sexual, physical, emotional or mental, often feel guilty and shameful and feel and think that it is their fault. They often keep their abuse a secret. In order to do this they often distance themselves from others and, by doing this, affect every part of their lives. My aim in the therapy is to listen and support you and to go at your own pace. It will also examine the assumptions that you may have about yourself as the result of the trauma. I will support you to shed some guilt shame, blame, worthlessness and depression that this trauma has caused. You can experience a safe and supportive space in which you can share your thoughts and feelings about yourself.
