As a Systemic Psychotherapist, I incorporate other modalities including Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, person centred approach. I have completed parenting training that include Mellow Parenting, MPACT (Moving Parents and Children together), Strengthening Families Programme which I incorporate in my practice. I have work with different members of the family systems including children, young people, parents, grand-parents, siblings and couples.
I am a UKCP-qualified Systemic Family Psychotherapist with over 23 years of experience working across health and social care sectors, including the voluntary sector and local authorities. As a British-born Muslim of Bangladeshi heritage from a working-class background, I bring a unique and culturally informed perspective to my practice. I have worked with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds and approach my work with sensitivity, curiosity, and a collaborative spirit.
My therapeutic style integrates various techniques tailored to each client’s needs. I understand that trauma and emotional pain can lead to entrenched patterns of thinking. Through gentle and respectful challenge, I support clients in making sense of their experiences and discovering new ways of understanding the world. Where appropriate, I incorporate humour to foster connection and create a safe, trusting environment.
In family therapy, I work with individuals, couples, and multiple family members—such as parents, children, and siblings—to explore challenges and set meaningful goals. Life presents many difficulties, including childhood trauma, attachment issues, adolescence, bereavement, relationship breakdowns, divorce, self-esteem concerns, cultural and faith-based identity struggles, and experiences of abuse—whether physical, emotional, financial, or sexual. These experiences shape how we navigate the world. Therapy offers a space to explore these challenges at your own pace, in a way that feels right for you.
I have extensive experience supporting adults, parents, children, and young people affected by drug and alcohol misuse and mental health difficulties. These issues often impact relationships within the family and beyond. Parental substance misuse affects one in five children, disrupting family dynamics and impairing the development of healthy peer relationships and emotional attachments. I use non-blaming language to explore each person’s journey, including childhood trauma and significant life events that may have shaped coping strategies used to manage emotional pain. Individuals may experience cognitive blocks shaped by past trauma, which can hinder personal growth.
I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is essential. Mutual respect, trust, and a shared understanding of how we will work together are key. Therapy is a collaborative process. Setting clear goals and acknowledging the emotional challenges involved can lead to transformative and empowering outcomes. I hold a core belief that every individual possesses the resilience and inner resources to overcome adversity. While life can be difficult, therapy can help us reconnect with the present and rediscover the beauty in the world around us.
