My Approach

I am trained in many different styles of counselling.

Counselling is a chance to talk about topics and feelings you can't discuss with family and friends. We can talk about anger, anxiety, depression – and topics such as work, relationships, addiction, sex, money, illness, religion, anything.

If something is difficult to talk about, there is no rush. On the other hand, you might like to go straight to the heart of the matter.

We are all different. My aim is to help you find your own voice and way of being in the world.

I have an interest in how our experiences growing up can affect us. How we were brought up, upsetting incidents in the home and at school, etc, can have a big impact. Looking at these experiences can help make sense of them and help us to feel better.

Another approach is to ask: “What keeps happening?” We can get stuck in patterns and types of relationship, and looking at these can help break the cycle.

Counselling can also be used to explore life’s big questions: “What is life for and how can I make the most of it?” To this end, I have an interest in religious and spiritual topics, with no personal agenda.

Counselling can be challenging, but it can also be exciting to discover new ideas and ways of being in the world.

I invite you to bring whatever is on your mind. Sometimes our thoughts race and it is difficult to relax. Counselling can be a chance to take time out and rest. I might suggest breathing or mindfulness exercises.

About Me

I have been involved in counselling and psychotherapy since 2009. I have a Masters degree and a Diploma in counselling and psychotherapy, and a degree majoring in psychology.

I work with adults of all ages and backgrounds. My aim is to help you find ways to manage situations and make life more fulfilling.

I work online via Zoom or Skype. I also offer some in-person appointments in Hillingdon and Ealing.

Initial appointment £40; regular appointments £60

Getting started...

Get in touch by phone or email. I aim to get back to you within 24 hours (although it will be longer if a weekend).

I will arrange for us to have a 5-minute chat by phone (no charge) to check I'm the right sort of counsellor for you.

Then, we can have a first meeting to explore how we might work together. To help me understand, I will ask some questions about your background and what brings you to counselling. I will also say something about how I work.

You can decide either during this appointment or afterwards if you would like to proceed. We will agree a regular time. We can keep things open-ended, reviewing as we go along, or agree on a particular number of appointments.

Counselling will take the form of a 50-minute appointment, and works best when there is a commitment to meet regularly. We are embarking on a journey.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

There is a view that we are all anxious - that's part of being human. But it's possible to learn to understand our triggers and manage our anxiety, so that we are better able to live with life's unexpected shocks and disturbances.
Sometimes depression is a mask for other feelings that we are not expressing - so it's more like 'repression'. The goal of therapy is 'more of you in the world'! By being curious about how life works for you, we can find out which parts of you are being held back.
Some of us find relationships difficult and try to avoid them. Others find themselves in unsatisfactory relationships, but are afraid to get out. And some have a mix of both. Relationships can be very confusing and difficult - like two hedgehogs trying to have a cuddle! Hopefully, counselling can help you to identify and change unhelpful patterns - and find new ways to be in relationship.
We have all suffered shocks in life. What is less well-recognised is the ongoing trauma of growing up in an environment that felt unsafe or unpredictable - where we felt we had to be 'on our guard' against caregivers/parents who weren't good with emotions.
