My Approach

Clients often tell me they chose to work with me because the process feels emotionally safe and intellectually credible. I bring depth, clarity, and challenge – but always with warmth and respect.

My path into psychotherapy began with an academic fascination for the mind, but deepened while working in medical education and leadership – witnessing how people wrestle with pressure, identity and meaning in a world increasingly shaped by AI and digital performance. This led me toward a more philosophical and relational way of understanding human experience.

I’m a UKCP-registered existential psychotherapist with a varied career across academia, healthcare and corporate leadership that helps me spot and suggest things others might miss:

• A PhD in neuroscience, grounding me in how we think, feel and change
• Postgraduate research into shame, masculinity, identity and pornography use, which informs my work with clients navigating emotional disconnection and self-worth
• A background in high-pressure creative and professional services environments, offering insight into the emotional cost of performance and ambition – and how they can be re oriented toward a more authentic life
• Supervision and tutoring for doctoral psychotherapy students, maintaining engagement with current research and emerging inquiry in the field
• An ongoing commitment to dialogue, reflection, and personal development – both for me and my clients.

While my academic and professional background informs the work, each encounter begins with curiosity rather than certainty. What matters most is the space we create together to examine what it means for you to live meaningfully and to confront life as it is – in all its ambiguity, freedom, and possibility.

About Me

Do you feel like you’re performing your life instead of living it? Outwardly, things may appear fine – but inwardly you might feel anxious, uncertain or disconnected – without knowing exactly what you want to change, or why. You’re not alone in feeling this way.

I work with people who are quietly questioning their identity, purpose, or direction – often after years spent meeting expectations of success – and help them to make clearer choices, develop more authentic relationships, and discover a way of living that feels more honest and present.

Many describe feeling numb inside, burnt out, or caught in patterns of striving that no longer bring fulfilment. For some, life begins to feel repetitive or distant, as though they’ve lost touch with who they really are. I provide the opportunity to pause, reflect, and approach these experiences with curiosity rather than judgment.

You don’t need to be in crisis to begin this work. Often, therapy starts when life is “fine” – but no longer fulfilling. I see anxiety and doubt not as symptoms to remove, but as invitations to pay attention to something vital beneath the surface. By exploring these experiences together, we can begin to understand what is calling for reflection and how to respond. My role is to accompany you in finding clarity, direction and authentic connection in a world that often prizes performance over presence.

My approach is grounded in existential psychotherapy, which means we’ll explore not just what’s happening, but what it means to you.

We’ll look at how your values, choices, relationships and sense of self have evolved – and gently explore where they might now feel misaligned and what needs to change. This process can open a space for more conscious living – so you can move from acting within inherited roles to crafting a future that feels genuinely yours.

I enjoy building collaborative relationships with clients of all backgrounds where we experience each other as genuine, real people, rather than via detached, clinical interactions. I aim to meet you as a person – not a problem – and to create a space where authenticity and reflection can unfold naturally. This makes it easier for you to be vulnerable and talk openly without fear of judgment.

Sessions are available online or in person, with no minimum commitment. I use recurring calendar invites, Microsoft Teams calls and one click payment links to make the process straightforward and low effort. You are welcome to book a free 20-minute introductory consultation through my website or email me with any questions – I usually reply within 24 hours. www.rethink-your-self.com
