My Approach

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy provides a way of making sense of human feelings and experiences, even the ones which seem irrational or extreme. Much of my clinical experience has focused on helping people to recover from traumatic experiences. I am also able to provide EMDR therapy as part of a more comprehensive psychotherapy experience or as a standalone treatment.

About Me

Over the course of my career in the NHS and independent practice I have worked with adults, children, infants and families. Psychoanalytical theory has been my guide to understanding distress and managing difficulties across the different age ranges.
I currently provide independent psychotherapy for individuals as well as specialist assessment and treatment services for adopted children and their families through the Regional Adoption Agencies and Local Authorities.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

During my time in the NHS and private practice I have spent a long time working with Adopted children and families and children with experience of the case system.
Psychotherapy provides a way of making sense of human feelings and experiences – even the ones which seem irrational or extreme. When we share these feelings with another person our relationship with them shifts. As we make sense of them it becomes possible to manage those feelings and to change.
EMDR might be something worth considering if you feel as though you cannot or do not want to talk in detail about the things that have happened to you. I have completed the Richman EMDR training and am qualified to offer EMDR.
Psychotherapy is not a treatment that is done to you, it is a collaborative experience. The unique therapeutic relationship that develops can be used as a starting point from which to explore the relationship that you have with yourself and with others. Psychotherapy creates change that flows from who you become rather than advice that you memorise.
Psychotherapy begins from the premise that all human experiences – even difficult ones like depression, addiction, relationship issues and trauma – have relevance and can be understood. It is in the making sense of these experiences that change becomes possible.
