I am an experienced humanistic integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. This means I am comfortable using a range of counselling and psychotherapeutic approaches to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself. Being humanistic or person-centred means I value the uniqueness of you, your experience, your beliefs, and your values. The co-creation of a therapeutic relationship, based on mutual trust and respect, provides you with a safe space to gain insight into and reconnect fully with yourself. I believe each person has the capacity and should have the autonomy to fulfil their potential. However, in our busy and demanding lives, it’s all too easy to lose sight of who we are, what we want, what is essential, and where we are going. Counselling and psychotherapy provide a way to help you rebalance and find yourself. Giving yourself time to be, to speak freely, and to feel fully heard and understood leads to change, development, and personal growth. I provide an open, confidential, and non-judgmental space where, working collaboratively, you can come to understand how your past has influenced your feelings about yourself and some of the difficulties you may be experiencing now, so that you can find a way to move forward in life differently.
I’m Mary, a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I am curious by nature about people, their lives and their experiences and how a range of factors, including family of origin, culture, social and economic status, intersect to shape and sometimes constrain them. I utilise my understanding to help individuals enhance their emotional and mental well-being, as well as their overall quality of life. I firmly believe that therapy provides a unique relational space for this to happen. I also hold a Masters in Psychology from Roehampton University and just completed my doctoral training in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy at Metanoia Institute, London. I am a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and I follow the ethical guidelines of the BACP, BPS and UKCP. In addition to my doctorate, I regularly undertake continuing professional development (CPD) to ensure I am working to the best of my ability for all my clients. I also have regular clinical supervision with an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist to enhance my practice. I am a recognised provider of psychotherapy for AXA, Aviva and Bupa.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
