My Approach

I take a holistic approach to psychotherapy due to the undeniable connection between body, mind and spirit. Alongside exploring how your childhood may be affecting your life today, I use other modalities such as EMDR for trauma processing and meditation for calming the nervous system. I am an accredited practitioner and teacher in both areas. I am a yogi of 30+ years so may introduce some simple poses to help compliment the work.

I am an approved BUPA and AVIVA psychotherapist.

I am fluent in English, Norwegian and Swedish so can provide therapy in either language.

About Me

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist with 10 years + experience working with individuals and couples. Although my university degree was in psychodynamics, I combine different modalities in order to offer a therapy that is best tailored to you. I do not believe in a 'one size fits all' approach to psychotherapy.

The first meeting lasts 20 minutes and is free of charge as it is an opportunity for you to find out if I am the right therapist for you, and for me to make sure that I can be of help to you. Meetings take place online via Zoom or at a clinic in Brighton (Hove or Preston Park).

I have 4 years of university level training in psychotherapy and counselling. I have a Master of Science in Psychotherapy from University of Brighton, and a Postgraduate Diploma from the same university in Psychodynamic Psychotherapeutic Counselling. I am an EMDR practitioner and a member of the EMDR Association UK & Ireland.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Grief is a journey and a natural process, however our culture of busyness does not accommodate for this. Together we explore your grief in a tempo that is natural to you. I currently work with clients who are losing or have lost loved ones to cancer, dementia, drug and alcohol addiction and suicide.
I am acutely aware of the significance of culture when it comes to our identities. Therapy can be very helpful when it comes to unpicking the myriad of feelings around wanting or fearing belonging, as well as in getting to know who we are on a deeper level. Having lived away from my country of birth for the past 31 years, I understand first hand the feelings surrounding this.
My MSc dissertation was about motherhood, postnatal depression and maternal ambivalence. I have a particular interest in how our parents as well as parenthood affects us, and have subsequently lectured on the subject at a postgraduate level. I welcome clients who would like to talk about these often difficult and culturally unacknowledged feelings.
I work with several clients who identify at trans. Together we explore your identity and experiences in a safe, supportive and holding environment.
In order for us to live our lives in the present, past traumas need to be processed and healed. We approach trauma gently. Here the client leads the work, getting to know their boundaries as we put experience(s) into words. This may be complimented by physical movements in order to release trauma that is stuck in the body, to re-establish physical boundaries and self-protection. EMDR is particularly helpful in processing trauma.
