Hi, I'm Mark.
Care, curiosity, empathy and creativity are at the heart of my work. My approach is based on Process Oriented Psychology, my clinical practice in the NHS and my qualifications, studies and research in Embodiment and Wellbeing. I use an integrative approach to meet each person individually and to help people overcome difficulties and to find meaning, ease and happiness.
I deeply believe that people already have what they need. That by bringing a gentle curiosity to all parts of our existence, and by trusting the creative pattern that underlie often seemingly disturbing, chaotic or painful experiences, a way forward will emerge organically. This is not to belittle the difficulties and pain that you might experience. More that by becoming aware of all our thoughts, felt experiences, body experiences and life situations, both the welcome and unwelcome ones, new ways will emerge.
Important within this is to work with what feels right and appropriate for you, and you can expect a safe, non-judgemental and empathetic space to process and journey.
Awareness of the dynamics of power and privilege in our society, as well as in the therapy room, are important underpinnings of my work. I specifically welcome people from marginalised or racialised groups, and actively work on an awareness of my own socialisation, actions and privileges.
Therapy can be long or short term, there is no prescribed time frames. I usually ask people to come for a reduced rate one-off session and if it feels right for both of us we can then agree on a number of sessions. This can then be regularly reviewed, with an agreed closing session.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
I am a registered Psychotherapist (UKCP) and Somatic Movement Therapist.
Besides practising psychotherapy I teach Embodiment and Somatics as a faculty member of Embody-Move UK and as an affiliate of Kings College London. Currently I am collaborating with several EU Universities to research the role of arts on well-being in higher education, as well as teaching psychotherapy and coaching as a faculty member of the Institut für Prozess Arbeit Deutschland.
I have extensive experience of working within NHS mental health services and continue to co-facilitate retreats and supervision days for NHS staff.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
