I am approachable, supportive, empathic, human, non-shaming and kindly challenging and employ a variety of approaches to help clients overcome their hurdles and enjoy the kind of life they would prefer. I utilise CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Acceptance-based therapy, Neurolinguistic Therapy, Integrative, Person-centred and Mindfulness. The only reason these "modalities" matter is that some approaches work better for some problems than others - so it helps to have a "toolbox". A great deal of successful therapy can be put down to the relationship between client and therapist, as well as the "modality" and methods, and of course the experience and expertise of the therapist. Most importantly it is a collaborative alliance and with this I have seen truly wonderful changes in clients over the years - even when they felt great frustration and little hope.
I am always happy to talk on the phone before meeting and within initial sessions we can both check after half an hour that we are happy to continue working together. If you wish to see someone else or I don't think I have the skill set and experience to help you, you don't have to pay for that time. I will of course offer some suggestions in that instance of other avenues you can try.
Hello. I am a Registered Psychotherapist and have been in Clinical Practice since 2001. I am down to earth and friendly and passionate that therapy is a collaborative process - my job is to enable clients to find their own individual, specific answers to their problems.
I can assist with the following problems: Anxiety, Anger, Assertiveness training, Behavioural change, Bereavement, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Chemsex recovery, Child abuse,, Depression, Sexual Identity, Interpersonal issues, Mood Disorders, Physical & Psychological abuse, Phobias, Social Communication, Stress management and reduction and Trauma. I also have particular interest and specific training in Infant attachment, child abuse and helping people who developed in alcoholic, violent or narcissistic households. I also actively welcome LGBT clients and have a fluency with many of the issues that LGBTQ people face.
Often clients may have more than one ongoing concern - so we can prioritise your treatment plan. I tend to work on a brief basis with clients (6-12 sessions) but there is no set rule. However I think it always helpful to have the outcome that you want in both our minds so your therapy is focussed and potent.
My experience over the years has taught me that theory is helpful but what happens in successful therapy is not purely dictated by it. No one size fits all and no specific therapeutic model has all the answers. Therapy should reflect the diversity of the cultures within society now and what may work for one person will therefore not necessarily fit someone else.
I have a particular interest in working with medics and have conducted mental health training for those in the NHS and in private healthcare. I also facilitate and train staff in whistleblowing and standing up to inappropriate behaviour and bullying.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
