About Me

Hi. I'm Maria, and I am a Humanistic Psychotherapist. I trained at The Metanoia Institute in Ealing, West London, and have an MSc in Humanistic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Middlesex University. Humanistic training incorporates different therapeutic approaches that recognise the balance and integration of the mind and body. I draw upon the approaches most suited to meeting your needs during our sessions.

My extensive professional experience includes working with clients at their most vulnerable times with the Macmillan Cancer Charity, the NHS, and the Emergency Services. My experience has taught me that a relationship that offers support, emotional safety, and the opportunity to express yourself without fear of judgment helps you process thoughts and feelings and better understand yourself and your relationships. You may be frustrated, noticing repeating patterns of behaviour that hold you back from reaching a place of meaning and understanding of yourself and your experiences. Our sessions will help you make sense of your difficulties, possibly with a different perspective, to move you towards finding your answers and give you the resilience to cope better.

I currently work with private clients online and by telephone. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I trained in a BACP-approved Online and Telephone Counseling qualification.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have 4 years expereince of experience working with the Macmillan Cancer Trust, working with clients who had a diagnosis of cancer, sometimes a terminal diagnosis. My clients were also the family and friends affected by knowing someone with a diagnosis.
Alongside my private practice, I am an Associate with a company delivering CBT therapy to staff who have been involved in traumatic situations and are left experiencing traumatic symptoms such as sleep deprivation, anxiety and intrusive thoughts.
I appreciate that face-to-face, whether in person or on a video platform, isn't a choice all clients would make. I experienced, when working as a therapist for the Macmillan Cancer Trust, working with clients who prefer a telephone counselling relationship, and we explored this in our work together. I am a qualified Telephone and Online therapist who completed a BACP course.
