My Approach

I'm a person-centred psychotherapist

About Me

My formal training is as a person-centred psychotherapist. I offer an empathic and skilled helping relationship in which I put myself in your shoes to try and really understand your thoughts, feelings and experiences. As we explore the difficult areas of your life we can deepen your understanding of your values, decisions, and patterns of behaviour and challenge your inhabitations and blocks to realising your potential and making the changes you want.

It may be that you want to address a specific issue, behaviour or problem in a short period of time. I am also experienced in short-term solution focused therapy, and we can look at ways to break unhelpful thoughts, habits and patterns and find more effective methods of engaging with these specific situations.

I understand building a genuine and honest relationship is essential to feel safe and therefore for real change to occur. You can always expect a non-judgemental, sensitive but honest response from me. I believe you are the authority on your life and I will help us to develop a relationship where you are comfortable to talk about what concerns you most. I will use my training, skills, intuition and experience to offer any thoughts, feelings and reflections I have to help you deepen your understanding and make the changes you need. I offer these reflections so you can check them against your own experiences, values and beliefs. This process allows new understanding to emerge and allows you to tune into your own felt sense (intuition) and explore a range of options and make the decisions that you feel are right for you. Helping people connect with the part of themselves that recognises their own authority and autonomy without feeling the need for external validation is a powerful process I find highly rewarding.

Coming to a psychotherapy can be an important step in taking control of your life and making the changes you want to have more harmonious, fulfilling and connected experience. However, it can natural to feel a little uncomfortable or nervous on the first meeting. My non-judgemental, genuine manner will help you feel comfortable and I understand it can be hard to talk about the things that we find difficult to someone we have just met. It’s fine to talk about things in your own time and share what feel comfortable. My experience is that the important things come out as they need to and we don’t need to push the process so feel free to come along to the free 30-minute meeting to get a sense if you would like to continue to your exploration with me. This session is an opportunity for us to both decide if and how we would like to work together and what you can expect from psychotherapy.
