My Approach

I am a relationship and creative therapist with experience of working with a wide range of people in different contexts. My approach endeavours to work in collaboration and be respectful of diversity and difference. I offer a safe, non judgmental & confidential space where therapy sessions unfold at a pace that is comfortable for the client.

I take an anti-oppressive stance recognising effects of societal structures of oppression on daily lived experience, taking account of power imbalances in society. Part of doing therapy can be calling out and naming the impact on lived experience of these oppressive structures as well as recognising and celebrating acts of resistance and liberation.

My practice is influenced by psychodynamic and systemic models & approaches, Narrative therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), Mindfulness & Sand tray therapy.

I have special interest and experience of working with clients who have been adopted and those who are care experienced, reconstituted and step-families, bereavement and the LGBTQ+ & trans communities.

Sessions can integrate body techniques, & use of images &/or objects to support process & expression, especially when words can be hard to find.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have extensive experience and a special interest in working therapeutically with people who are impacted by adoption and fostering. In therapeutic work I bring my experienced of having worked over several years, with individuals couples and families who are in or have been in the care system, biological parents who do not live with their parents, and foster carers.
I work with individuals, couples and families where there has been a loss and bereavement. Therapeutic work is designed to fit to the individual needs. In bereavement work, common themes focus on expressing and processing difficult emotions, finding coping strategies and adaptation to loss.
In therapeutic work I support clients to explore how cultural identity and background informs our experience. My practice takes an anti-oppressive stance and is influenced by critical race theory, recognising how racism is embedded in societal structures and institutions, rather than solely as individual prejudice or bias and that this has a direct impact on embodied lived experience. I am a compassionate therapist and my practice is anti-oppressive.
I work with clients who have been sexually abused. I will support you to process and work through trauma, develop healing, resilience and wellbeing.
I work to support clients who want to explore issues relating to sexuality, for example, questioning sexual orientation and/or gender identity, exploring desire and attraction, and working through sexual traumas. I offer gender affirming therapy.
