My Approach

My counselling philosophy is rooted in a Humanistic Integrative Approach, with a strong foundation in Gestalt therapy. This aligns closely with my supervision style, as I encourage self-awareness, personal responsibility, and relational depth. I also integrate elements of Transactual Analysis, Person centred Approach Psychodynamic , and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) where appropriate, allowing for a tailored approach to counselling and supervision. I currently Charge £45.00 reduced rate for trainee counsellors and psychotherapy
My main rate is £65.00 hour

About Me

My name is Lorraine Phoenix, and I am a BACP Member Level 4 Counsellor (since 2010) and UKCP Accredited MSc Integrative Psychotherapist Level 7 (since 2019). I have extensive experience working in both private practice and various agencies, supporting clients with a wide range of presenting issues and tailoring my approach to meet their unique needs.

In addition to my therapeutic work, I have been involved in education since 2008, delivering counselling qualifications, including NCFE Level 2 and 3 Counselling Diplomas and currently the SEG Level 4 Therapeutic Counselling Diploma. I also hold a Level 3 Assessor’s Qualification and a Level 4 TAQA IQA, which enable me to support and assess students in their professional development. As the Lead Lecturer for these counselling courses, I am passionate about training the next generation of counsellors and equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed for ethical and effective practice.

Supervision & My Approach
Supervision is an essential part of a counsellor’s professional journey, especially for trainee counsellors. It provides a safe, reflective space to explore client work, develop confidence, and ensure ethical, effective practice. I believe that supervision should be a collaborative and supportive process, empowering counsellors to grow both professionally and personally.

I work with a Seven-Eyed Relational Model of Supervision, both of which encourage deep reflection on the therapeutic relationship, the client’s experience, and the wider systemic influences at play. Additionally, I integrate Inskipp & Proctor’s Approach, which balances the formative (learning and development), normative (ethical and professional standards), and restorative (supportive and self-care) functions of supervision. This allows for a holistic and structured yet flexible supervision experience that adapts to each supervisee’s needs.

I am currently undertaking my Level 6 Diploma in Supervision and am offering reduced-rate supervision at £40 per hour for trainee and newly qualified counsellors. This rate will be reviewed upon qualification, but I am committed to maintaining affordability for students and those in training. I am available for supervision sessions on Tuesdays at 9:00 AM 11.00AM , 12.00 PM with some flexibility 8.00am Fridays if needed.

If you are a trainee or qualified counsellor looking for supportive, integrative supervision, please feel free to get in touch.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

My work is grounded in an awareness of the complex cultural, social, and systemic forces that shape identity and experience. I recognise that power dynamics, whether rooted in race, gender, class, sexuality, disability, or other cultural factors are ever-present in therapeutic and training spaces. My integrative practice is informed by an anti-oppressive, intersectional lens that seeks to challenge dominant narratives and make space for marginalised voices. I strive to create an affirming, reflective environment where difference is not only acknowledged but deeply valued. My queer-informed perspective further supports my commitment to inclusive and culturally responsive practice.
My practice is rooted in an awareness of the cultural, systemic, and relational power dynamics that shape individual and collective experience. I work from an intersectional and anti-oppressive framework, recognising how factors such as race, gender, class, disability, sexuality, and migration histories impact therapeutic processes. I bring a queer-informed and Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity (GSRD)-aware perspective, offering an affirming and knowledgeable space for clients and supervisees exploring diverse sexualities, relationship styles (including consensual non-monogamy), and kink practices. My approach invites open, non-pathologising dialogue, valuing difference and lived experience as central to meaningful therapeutic work.
I am currently completing a Level 6 qualification in clinical supervision and am beginning to take on supervisees at a concessional rate of £40 per hour. My supervisory approach is grounded in a relational model, offering a collaborative, reflective space that supports both personal and professional development. I bring an integrative perspective informed by Gestalt, Humanistic, TA, Psychodynamic, and some CBT modalities. I also offer a queer-informed lens, welcoming and affirming diverse identities and experiences. My aim is to foster open, ethical, and meaningful supervision that honours the complexity of therapeutic work.
As an integrative lecturer and psychotherapist, I bring a rich and varied background to my teaching, drawing on Gestalt, Humanistic Person-Centred, Transactional Analysis, and Psychodynamic approaches, with additional knowledge of CBT. I am particularly attuned to the challenges faced by students and trainees as they navigate personal and professional development within training programmes. My approach emphasises relational depth, reflective practice, and the integration of theory with lived experience, aiming to support the growth of thoughtful, ethical, and grounded practitioners.
I specialise in workplace counselling, offering support to individuals navigating challenges such as stress, burnout, conflict, change, and work-related mental health issues. With a focus on psychological wellbeing in professional environments, I help clients build resilience, improve communication, and manage boundaries. My approach supports both personal growth and professional development, promoting healthier, more sustainable working lives.
