My Approach

My trauma-focused therapy approach empowers individuals to cultivate contentment both personally and professionally. By providing expert guidance and support, I help clients address underlying issues that may be affecting their overall well-being.
Every person is different and what we will discuss, and for how long, will depend on you. A couple of sessions to help you work through a particular issue or dilemma may be all that is needed. In a culture where speaking openly about your fears and concerns is not encouraged, an understanding ear can sometimes be helpful. Alternatively, there may be complex and underlying issues that require a longer-term therapeutic relationship. This is something we can develop together.

About Me

As a therapist I use my years of experience as an engineer, a humanitarian and senior manager to inform not only who I am, but how I practice. I like to ensure therapy is built around the individual client as working overseas has given me insight into the different perspectives different cultures can bring. “I’m OK, you’re OK” (Transactional Analysis, Berne) means everyone has the capacity to heal and my role is to support that journey.

  • Individuals
  • Private healthcare referrals

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Depression can be pervasive and impacts our ability to enjoy life. Developing coping strategies can help clear headspace to identify and address the underlying issues. I work with clients to develop a toolkit that works for them to avoid the depression 'hole' and help them to get out when avoidance is not possible.
Work schedules can make it difficult to see a therapist on a regular basis. Working on-line (as well as face to face in Nottingham) gives more flexibility, particularly for clients who travel or are based away from home for extended periods.
Post-traumatic stress can be triggered by many things after a traumatic incident and at any time. Understanding why can help to identify triggers and reduce the impact as we work together to address the underlying trauma.
Stress can have both physical and psychological impacts and is likely to be cumulative from many causes whether work related and/or personal situation. Reducing the build-up of stress on a day to day basis as well as reducing the long-term cumulative stress is key to building capacity to manage stress and resilience moving forward.
Whether dealing with a recent trauma, incidents in the past or ongoing crisis, their impacts may be underlying and/or disruptive to daily life. I work with clients to understand their experience, develop coping strategies to help on a day to day basis as well as processing the underlying issues, at a pace that is developed with each individual
