As in many psychotherapy practices, developing a trusting relationship with clients creates a
safe environment for clients to explore issues that are troublesome and often suppressed or remain hidden. It takes curiosity and compassion to work through such unconscious or secondary material, and Process work offers unique ways of unfolding
disturbances through our close connection with body signals and the deeper dreaming process. In this way we learn to befriend the unknown, the unpredictable, learning tools, gaining understanding and awareness skills to help us with painful and conflictual feelings, experiences and relationships. Developing such compassionate awareness can transform our experiences into a world of discovery, where our inner worlds are more prepared to meet with and relate to outer experiences, of relationships and organisations and our changing and evolving environments.
Since qualifying as a process worker in 2009, I have worked as a psychotherapist and facilitator in the LGBT centre in Edinburgh. I worked 8 years at the Wellspring counselling and psychotherapy centre which offers therapy for people on different economical incomes. Within the ‘children in need’ project, I was pleased to work with a small team of therapists organising family therapy and working with kids in schools. As I had been a teacher for over 18 years, I was very happy to see the counselling culture in the school context.
As well as working 1:1 with individuals in my practise I also love group work. I offer training sessions on process work skills, dream groups, body awareness and awareness of group dynamics. Process work theory has developed fantastic ways of understanding group dynamics, offering tools to develop the individual participation within group settings (including family, work or community).
In today’s world dominated with social media and increasingly violent news, it can be very helpful to have some training in basic conflict resolution skills, awareness of power dynamics and knowledge of our own styles and own life journey to help us navigate. I learned much from working with groups of children to help them develop social skills in schools and education. I am passionate about community groups and skill sharing practise in Go Deep Scotland -a community-building project.
My deepest dreaming lies in our connection with the Earth, as a tonic for modern living and a resource that we can no longer take for granted. I enjoy writing prose and poetry, singing in choirs and long walks in mountains, hanging out with friends and collaborating with fellow colleagues.
I am an experienced Process Work psychotherapist and facilitator, working with people of all ages and social backgrounds in a variety of settings. Since August 2024 I set up my own private practise and work from St Margaret’s house, London Road, Edinburgh. (I also work remotely on-line) I also have a diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling with children and adolescents from the Northern Guild Psychotherapy. I am UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) accredited.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
