My Approach

Therapy provides a safe, confidential space to explore difficult emotions and behaviours to understand the underlying processes which may be causing them. By gently raising our awareness and understanding of these processes we can begin to make them feel less threatening and more manageable in our day to day lives. Difficult emotions can present in many different forms, particularly with children and adolescents. You may notice a change in behaviour and/or communication, feelings of anger, worry, increased nightmares or trouble sleeping, a change in appetite or less energy or motivation to do things.

I offer a free introductory conversation where I speak with the parent/guardian, usually on the phone, to get to know each other a little bit and give you the chance to ask any questions. From there we can book the first session online which will consist of a more thorough assessment where I will ask questions about some of the client’s history and what is going on for you. I will meet with the parent/guardian and child/adolescent together and/or separately during the assessment to build up a picture of what’s happening and how I might be able to help. Sessions will then continue with the child/adolescent with parent reviews as required.

Beginning therapy is a brave step, sometimes we don’t know how to talk about what’s going on and feel the need to have the answers before explaining things to someone else. I offer a safe space, free from judgement where we can figure it out together and help things feel more manageable.

I am able to offer both short –term and open ended sessions online via zoom. I am also trialling the option of 'walk and talk' therapy where sessions are conducted outside, whilst going for a walk. My aim is to offer young people a relaxed, non-clinical space to open up, connect, and reflect—whilst moving gently through natural surroundings. These sessions are designed to support emotional wellbeing, build confidence, and reduce stress through the simple yet powerful combination of conversation and time outdoors.

It's important to find a therapist who you can get along with and feel comfortable working with. For some it can be an exciting process to begin and others may feel a little scared or nervous. We will work at your pace and there is no pressure for you to do or say anything. The initial session can give you an idea of how I work and allow you to talk about any concerns or queries before deciding whether you feel happy to carry on. Please feel free to get in touch if you'd like to get started, I look forward to hearing from you.

About Me

Hi my name is Katie and I’m an Integrative Psychotherapist specialising in work with Children and Adolescents. I offer one to one talking therapy for children and young people using an integrative approach. Being integrative means that I have an understanding of a number of theories which I can use to best meet your needs and tailor my approach to you. I can offer short-term, solution focussed therapy for a period of 6-12 weeks or long term, open ended therapy.

I have over 15 years of experience in working with mental health and have supported people facing a range of difficulties including anxiety, low mood, problems around eating, stress, anger, low self-esteem, bullying, loss and bereavement, suicidal thoughts, self-harm and trauma.
