My Approach

I work on the understanding that all therapies offer the same goal - choice. Choice about how to respond to situations, rather than continuing old behavioural patterns based on unconscious decisions made years ago. You may not feel happier after our work together and may have to leave behind a lot of old, safe assumptions about yourself, people and the world, but you will feel more in control of your responses to situations and therefore, hopefully, more contented.

The way this works is through (relatively) short term coaching and/or therapy of about 20 sessions on specific goals. Working as an integrative psychotherapist means that I integrate a number of therapies learnt over the years. The language I use will be based on the belief that we operate from 'parts' of ourselves rather than being one-dimensional human beings, for example our career 'part' which may be very different from our Saturday evening 'part'. Occasionally one or two 'parts' seem to be opposing the direction in which we would like to move or be getting in the way of positive relationships. They may be critical of us when we are trying our best in a work environment. This therapy works with these parts, borrowing from therapies such as Transactional Analysis, Internal Family Systems, Ego State Therapy, EMDR and Attachment-Focused EMDR and CBT. I am also a firm believer in Mindfulness and the benefits this can bring, having experienced this for myself. More information about my approach can be found on my website:

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Past unprocessed trauma can cause us to become stuck in so many areas of our lives. EMDR and attachment-focused EMDR have a proven track record of helping resolve these past issues.
I offer coaching to help alleviate issues with low self esteem, relational issues, burn out, to name but a few. I trained initially in Transactional Analysis, which is used in business settings to help understand relational issues between individuals and also between the organisation and employees. Coaching tools are also available to help navigate new ways of responding to situations and help tolerate the uncomfortable feelings that come from practicing new responses.
Identity development can be severely stifled when we are attempting to adapt to the needs of others. Exploration of this could be the main crux of much of our work.
All the therapies and coaching tools I offer are helpful for relationship difficulties, especially when we explore what parts of the other person/people affect what parts of you.
The coaching and therapy I offer provide a unique way of approaching the subject of stress, exploring your reaction to it rather than simply the causes of it.
