My Approach

I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space for you to explore your needs. Concerns I have worked with include:
* being stuck in unhelpful patterns of relating, whether at home, with family and friends or in the workplace;
* feeling unhappy, sad, anxious, depressed, unfulfilled or a bit lost;
* feeling confused and uncertain about changes of direction in life due to break-up of relationships, loss and bereavement, workplace challenges and change, impact of external events;
* recurrence of negative thoughts and fears and low self esteem.
Often, patterns of feeling and behaviour are set in early childhood and are not in conscious awareness. Together we will explore the beliefs you hold about yourself and others, where these beliefs originated, what survival methods you may have cultivated unconsciously, which negative experiences keep repeating themselves, how you have developed a life script which forms the basis of your feelings, thoughts and beliefs. We will work to bring these feelings, thoughts and beliefs into conscious awareness so that you may consciously test out their validity and challenge them in order to bring about change.

I will work with you to explore how life experiences might be hijacking you in the present and to help you build trust and confidence in yourself and in the life choices you make.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Often clients feel anxious but don't always understand why. Anxiety can lead to self soothing through alcohol or drugs, self-harm to alleviate the pain, relationship breakdown, anger, depression and so on. So I work with clients to address root causes.
After moving from London to North Wales, I work mainly online to enable access to counselling, psychotherapy and coaching to a wide range of clients across the UK. I find that this suits clients who have access to a safe and confidential space, whether at home or in the workplace. Clients will need good internet connection, and a reliable laptop or desktop with access to Zoom.
We are always in relationship whether positively or negatively. I work with a wide range of issues that clients bring to therapy or coaching. These include loss of a relationship, friction in relationships, conflict, difficulty in trusting others, values shared or not, impact of earlier experiences on current relationships.
I gained valuable experience during Covid of working for several charities, via telephone, with clients who were unable to access a good internet connection or did not have access to a laptop or desktop. This also allows clients who are travelling for work some flexibility to switch between online and telephone.
After undertaking a Diploma in Professional Coach-Mentoring and an MSc in Executive Coaching, I worked as an internal coach in both the public and private sectors. I noticed that many of the issues impacting clients were of a personal nature and I felt a more in-depth approach was needed for both the clients and myself. Fear, anxiety, low self-esteem, stress, feeling stuck, bullying, imposter syndrome, were all prevalent in the workplace, as they are in life. They got in the way of people achieving their full potential. So I embarked on the 5-year training to become a Psychotherapist so that I could flex between coaching and psychotherapy according to client needs. That is how I now approach workplace counselling.
