My Approach

The path inward. It leads us toward what I call "insourcing".

In a world that constantly asks you to look outward for permission, in-sourcing is the practice of reclaiming your own internal sovereignty and compassion for, and trust in, your intuitive wisdom.

Therapy is the reflexive, deep work of developing the honesty and resilience required to show up fully in the outer world—not as a version of yourself shaped by someone else's ideas, but as the person you were always coded to be. To live your life. In harmony. In the world.

About Me

I am Julia, and my spirited sidekick is Theodore (dog). My rhythm is found in the quiet spaces: between the pages of a deep book, on long walks through the natural world, and in the presence of curious inquiry. I have always felt privilege in walking alongside others on their life journeys. Whether I was teaching children in classrooms or students at universities or supporting clients through the often-challenging work of therapy or the creative space of coaching, my mission has remained the same: to help the soul discover the path home.

Reflexive Therapy: The Art and Mastery of Meaningful Change. Growth isn't usually a straight line; it's a journey that goes back and forth to the centre. This goes beyond the "patient" model of some traditional therapy to include reflexive therapy, which is the art of being an active part of your growth. This is a place for people who think deeply, are intellectual outsiders, and have minds that are free to think for themselves and don't want quick fixes. They want psychological rigour and the courage to do serious work. We should not see "wellbeing" as a temporary state or an end goal. If we work on developing reflexive skills, which are the abilities to observe, iterate, and combine experiences into a coherent, empowered whole, we can create an inner, stable state of well-being that lasts through the ups and downs of life.
By nature, I am a seeker.

When a thread of wisdom catches my attention, I forge my path of learning to understand the connections, the smallest details, and their place in the grander architecture of the human experience. I work not just for the joy of discovery but also to share those insights with others—distilling the complex into the simple and the discord into peace. I am a qualified coach and UKCP-accredited psychotherapist, currently serving as a subject coordinator, module leader, and external examiner at Oxford Brookes University’s International Centre for Coaching and Mentoring Studies. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), which recognises teaching and learning excellence; I was awarded the Oxford Brookes Student Union Award for Excellence in Postgraduate Student Support in 2026.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I work with clients who have experienced coercive control in relationships, whether intimate, familial, or work-based. The resulting mental and emotional states of exhaustion and confusion, along with the inability to define healthy boundaries, affect your sense of self. This type of abuse is sometimes referred to in popular media as narcissistic abuse.
Similar to abuse dynamics, I work with individuals who have experienced bullying, whether intimate, familial, or work-based. We work with patterns of identity and developing strategies to support change to the internal beliefs, and change in the outward dynamics
As a result of abuse, bullying, neurodivergence (masking), perfectionism, the body can be left exhausted, resulting in long-term illness such as CFS, ME, burnout, etc. We work from the physical body's shout for help towards health through an exploration of the environments, relationships, identity beliefs and values that shape your current experience.
CPTSD – complex post-traumatic stress – is a condition that often results from long-term patterns of survival in the face of coercive control in relationships (intimate, familial and work-based). It is an insidious wearing-down, or erosion, of your sense of self over time, which destroys your sense of reality, mental health, well-being, and sense of self.
Sometimes in the midst of difficult times the sense of faith, lost, developing or strong, can hold us grounded. I am not talking about religion but the sense of faith that comes from spiritual practice, whatever the medium of delivery. Discussions to support your sense of self in and through difficult times.
