I was initially trained in three major approaches to psychotherapy, person-centred, psychodynamic and existentialist psychotherapy. Since then, I have read deeply and continued my training in LGBTQIA issues, gender and sexuality, trauma, somatic approaches and nervous system regulation, feminist counselling (which locates our distress in living in systems that oppress us), mindfulness and self-compassion.
I have worked as a therapist for more than 13 years, and have experience in working with all sorts of issues, both in my private practice, and in various charities offering counselling to adults and young people. I have particular experience in supporting recovery from abusive relationships, and working with queer clients in exploration of gender, sexuality and relationship diversity. Other experience includes support around romantic relationships, heartbreak, longing, domestic and sexual abuse, PTSD, bereavement & loss, self-harm, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, entrenched shame and low self-esteem/confidence.
I think we all have our problems. Being human is hard and life can throw up challenges and griefs that we have not anticipated. Therapy can deepen your insight and understanding about your relationships and yourself, and reflect in a safe, warm and supportive space on what is troubling you.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
