My Approach

I am an integrative practitioner which means that I believe that the relationship between the two of us is critical. My role then is to enable you to understand what is and has been going on for you, what in your past may have contributed to that, and how in the present and future you can respond to it in ways that support you to be your full self. so that your past is part of your history rather than framing your present and future.

About Me

I am an integrative psychotherapist working in private practice in Cambridge. I offer a safe space for people to work through the issues they want to resolve - usually around anxiety, self-confidence, concerns at home or at work with relationships or simply not feeling in a good place in themselves. Psychotherapy for me is about growing into ourselves, becoming who we want to be, discovering ways to stop holding ourselves back. This is based on the importance of the relationship between the two people in the room, which recognises that we both have things to contribute. You bring your experiences to date and the things that are troubling you, I bring my therapeutic training and experience, experiences of life and mental health issues, and together we work towards finding ways for you to feel more comfortable in your world, to have more 'presence' there.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

many of the people I have worked wiht have experienced abuse in a range of forms. A common belief held is that I must be broken because I was abused. the work in therapy is to shift this belief, understand it does not have to be true and find a personal belief that is about strength and pride as distinct from victim hood and the sense of being broken.
Anxiety is a common and important human emotion but for many it has become an overwhelming feature of life. therapy can help us to explore this eissues find out where the anxiety iOS coming from what triggers it and what other responses may be available to us.
I have worked in the mental health field for most of my professional life, beginning as a nursing assistant in a Young Peoples unit run as Therapeutic community in a psychiatric hospital and ending as a Non Executive Director on the Board of a Community and Mental Health NHS Trust. I was active in championing involving service users, people with lived experience in policy, planning and services from the 80's with Mind in the UK and then working in Central and Eastern Europe. .
Relationships are the core of our social and personal life whether with intimate partners, friends, families or our communities. How we mange these relationships, how we feel about ourselves in them and how we feel and think about those around us can have a massive impact on us.. We often get ourselves tangled up into all sorts of beliefs and expectations and assumptions that really hold us back .In therapy we can explore those, find out which are helpful and which aren't and develop some more useful ways of thinking about and experiencing relationships.
I am fascinated by how trauma impacts on us and the importance of working with that impact, rather than the detail of the what happened, in the here and now. So what beliefs have we developed, what stores do we tell ourselves and how does that stop us functioning now.
