I use play, creativity and the arts where they feel helpful, creating a third space between myself and the child or young person where thoughts and feelings can be explored safely, sometimes through metaphor rather than directly. With older children and young people, this may develop into a more talk-based approach. I work in a child-centred way, adapting the pace and language of therapy to what each individual needs.
My aim is to offer a space where children and young people can think, feel and be seen, and where they can begin to make sense of their experiences in their own way. You are very welcome to get in touch, you can reach me at j.s.stoyle@gmail.com
I have worked with children and young people for over 20 years, supporting them across education and therapeutic settings. My qualifications include a BA (Hons) in Social Anthropology, a PGCE, a Postgraduate Diploma in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a Master of Education (MEd) from the University of Cambridge.
I am a UKCP registered member and work in accordance with the UKCP Code of Ethics and Professional Practice.
My training is integrative, drawing on psychoanalytic, psychodynamic and humanistic approaches alongside neuroscience, attachment theory and an understanding of the wider systems and relationships surrounding a child or young person. I believe that the therapeutic relationship itself is central to the work, and that each child needs to be met as an individual rather than fitted into a particular model.
