If you have tried CBT approaches in the past, this will feel very different. It is likely to feel less structured and more exposing, which can feel challenging in the early stages. You may not know where to start or what to say, and that is very normal. Over time though, clients appreciate the space for them to talk freely about and explore the issues facing them as and when they arise.
In our sessions, all feelings are welcome. I give a particularly warm welcome to the ones that we try and push aside to just get through the day, only to find they have grown and pushed their way to the surface when we least expect it. I will go at your pace and provide you with a safe and compassionate space in which you can fully experience and express your feelings, maybe for the first time in your life.
I am a BACP registered and UKCP accredited psychotherapeutic counsellor offering individual short and long-term counselling to adults (18+). My core modality is Transactional Analysis. As a psychotherapeutic counsellor, I am trained to offer longer-term counselling helping you to explore the root cause of the issues you are facing, and the relationship between us will be at the centre of the work we do.
As an integrative counsellor, I also incorporate elements of other humanist approaches into my practice to provide a tailored response to your needs. These include existential, person-centred, cognitive behavioural, solution-focused, Gestalt, and compassion-focussed approaches.
I have been in clinical practice since 2020. Throughout my training, I worked in a GP surgery in Newcastle, offering short and long-term counselling for a range of issues, including anxiety, low mood, relationship issues, social isolation, life transitions, caring for loved ones, menopause, abuse in childhood, and bereavement.
For the past 18 months, I have been working as a qualified counsellor in a University delivering single-session and brief six-session therapy. My background means that I have particular experience and interest in working with neurodiversity (e.g. ADHD and autism), growing up with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), bereavement by suicide, work-related stress and burnout, and vicarious or secondary trauma.
