My approach is relational, embodied body psychotherapy. I work in a variety of ways, from sitting in chairs, talking, being aware of what is happening in my own body and emotions as we speak, as well as in the space between us, including what is 'unspoken' but happening in terms of body language, gesture, tone of voice, landscape of facial expressions.
I work differently with each client, depending on the issues that they bring.
E.g for one person, it may be via art/poetry/movement. For another via biodynamic massage, which is a form of conscious, intentional and relational touch within a specialised type of massage used within body psychotherapy. This is used to both have a conversation with the body, which can help a client to gain access to emotions that have been repressed or stuck at a body tissue/muscular/fascia level or even cellular level in some cases, as well as to help calm, soothe, ground and help someone to get in touch with parts of themselves that they may not be at a conscious level. This is often the case for issue that have happened pre-verbally, before language has developed. It is particularly suited to psychosomatic issues, and where 'talking therapies' have not helped or helped much.
Sometimes I work with dreams that a client brings which we discuss. I have an interest in Jungian Analysis and have attended some workshops and groups, but I am not a Jungian analyst. I may ask you to bring your dreams or you may wish to bring them and we can discuss - this is optional and not a requirement. I work very flexibly and only go where there is interest/curiosity of the client.
I am able to work with many issues that people often bring to psychotherapy, e.g divorce, bereavement, grief, redundancy, identity issues, transitions, family dynamics, as well as working at much more subtle, nuanced levels e.g. with existential issues. My training is trauma-informed, and I am able to work at depth with clients. I have considerable experience working with childhood trauma, abuse, complex trauma, relationship issues.
I am able to work with someone who comes with anger, rage, grief, shame. They often overlap.
I am creative, intuitive, sensitive, non-judgemental, down-to-earth and yet still very pragmatic in my approach. I offer both short-term or longer term body psychotherapy. My goal is to make myself redundant, not to keep you any shorter or longer in therapy than you need to be, but to ensure you have the personalised approach that is so important. Everyone is different, and this is not a one-size-all type of therapy.
