My Approach

I am a Systemic and Family Psychotherapist. This means I think with families about how they interact, what drives these patterns, whether they help or hinder the family's wellbeing and relationships, and generate ideas together of how to be together differently. I try to keep a focus on peoples' strengths, and take a non-blaming approach. Systemic approaches recognise that there is no one 'correct' way to be a family or couple. I can work with family groups whether there are blood-ties, you are family-by-choice, a couple (romantic or not, together or separated), single parent, or an individual who wants to reflect on relationships or parenting.

Systemic therapy focuses on how our context influences how we are in the world and with others, so you can expect me to offer to explore how your cultural, family, personal identity and social background have influenced you, and to do so sensitively and collaboratively.

I've done a wide range of training around supporting parents to respond to their child's behaviour (VIPP-SD, PIPT, sleep training, parenting groups), managing strong emotions (DBT-A) and my approach comes from a strong foundation of knowledge about mental health difficulties and child development. I bring ideas from these approaches into my work when it is useful to families or young people.

My work in the NHS has been helping families understand, adapt, cope and recover when a member has had mental health problems or where relationships and communication has become difficult. My couples work supports parents to find common ground on how to support their child, or address relationship issues they have noticed is impacting their child's wellbeing. However I can also use my skills to offer space to explore your values and approach as a family and increase your understanding and communication before difficulties arise.

I sometimes set challenges or experiments for between sessions, and have found the therapy has biggest impact where families come ready to try things out and reflect between our meetings.

About Me

I've worked in NHS child and adolescent mental health services in London for over ten years doing family, couple and parenting work. I have worked with young people across the age range and in a service specially for parents of children under 5. I have been told I come across as warm, calm and friendly. My work with children of all ages has taught me the power in being playful and creative in therapy, and with teenagers I have learnt the value of being reliable, straightforward in how I communicate, and non-judgemental.

In my NHS work, I manage mental health teams and am a qualified and experienced clinical supervisor.
