My approach to psychotherapy is underpinned by an attachment-based psychoanalytic framework. Attachment theory focuses on the long-lasting impact of our earliest relationships with our childhood caregivers, such as our parents. It emphasises the importance of those early relationships in enabling us to grow and develop a healthy sense of self, and the issues that arise when these relationships are insufficiently secure and supportive. Attachment therapy is therefore based on a co-created relationship between therapist and client. I also draw on a number of other approaches and techniques in my therapeutic work, depending on my clients' individual needs. As a therapist, I am committed to supporting you on this journey, with a view to helping you feel stronger, happier and more in control.
I have experience of providing both voluntary and private sector psychotherapy services. My clinical interests are broad and I can help with a range of issues including:
-The impact of abuse and violence
-Low mood /or suicidal feelings
-Stress and worry
-Fertility related issues
-Couples therapy and relationship issues
-Career and work
-Loss and bereavement
-Difficult life decisions
-Problems around sex or sexuality
-Personal growth
-Low self-esteem
-Family problems
-Confusion around or problems with identity
-Feeling in crisis or in a state of breakdown
-Problems related to disability
-Problems related to learning disability
-Addictions
-Impact of racism, oppression and discrimination
I provide a confidential and caring environment in which people can explore their issues and gain a better understanding of themselves, their emotions and their patterns of behaviour. In doing so, I aim to help people to reflect on where they are in life and resolve their issues and hopefully live a happier life.
Every client is unique and there is no one size fits all approach to psychotherapy. I work together with my clients to ensure that the therapy develops at a pace and style that suits their individual needs. I am focused on developing an open and trusting therapeutic relationship with my clients, in order to support growth and change, as appropriate.
I am a qualified attachment-based Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist. I am a registered member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and I completed my training at The Bowlby Centre (a UKCP accredited institution). I am committed to following the ethical and professional codes of practice of both the UKCP and The Bowlby Centre.
I have experience in helping people from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. I have worked with clients who have come to therapy with a variety of issues including trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, discrimination, difficult life decisions and feeling in a state of crisis.
Prior to training as an attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapist, I have an extensive career background in PR and communications, focused on the healthcare and charity sectors. This armed me with many transferable skills, attributes and qualifications which inform my work as a psychotherapist.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
