My Approach

I am trained as an attachment based psychoanalytic psychotherapist. I also use other approaches and may recommend clients look to other specialists if it feels appropriate to their needs.
Looking at our upbringing and relationship history is key to my approach. Also our proffesional relationship as we work together and get to know each other is important and something we would talk about during the therapy.

About Me

I have been a mental health worker for 25 years as a nurse and as a therapist. I have also been a lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London. I now have a private practice in Peckham, South East London.
I have worked with people with a wide range of mental health problems. In addition to my training as an attachment based psychotherapist I have also trained in cognitive behavioral therapy and have worked with people who have difficulty with alcohol or drug use. I also work with people who take prescribed medications.

I am also a musician working with community choirs and orchestras. I have studied music in both Java and Thailand.

My clients include those who have had contact with mental health services, people who have suffered trauma and abuse, and those interested in developing themselves in both work and social spheres. Also people in the arts world and performers.

I work with

  • Individuals
  • Private healthcare referrals

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have experience in working with this issue and frequently work with people who have addictions to behaviours and substances. Attacment issues and in particular understanding what we may not have recieved but needed earlier in our lives is often key to regaining control over our addictions.
This is one of the most frequent "lables" that clients bring. Everyone has a different experience of depression and exploring this is vital inunderstanding how depressive feelings develop over our lifespan. Medication and cognitive approaches are useful, as is caring for our bodies and our relationships and I do not think any approach is better than another. Attachment based relational therapy is often useful and frequently in combination with other approaches.
I have worked in psychiatric services for 15 years and have an understanding of the medical model, diagnosis and treatments including medications. Whilst my work as an attachment based relational psychotherapist is a very different approach my experience in these areas is often useful particularly to people who have experience of mental health services.
This is key to my work as an attachment based therapist. I often work with people on their relationships both current and past.
