My Approach

I offer Integrative psychotherapy to individuals and couples and work on a short or long-term basis. I aim to provide a compassionate and empathic, but down-to-earth approach to psychotherapy and counselling, which takes account of personal history and yet which can be focused and goal-oriented too.
I work in a psychodynamic way, but with a person-centred stance towards my client, valuing uniqueness and choice-making and with belief that everyone has the capacity for personal growth. I also work with Existential issues - and sometimes I work cognitively and behaviourally, in the style of CBT. I value being an Integrative Psychotherapist as it not only allows me to work at depth, but also using a number of different approaches depending upon client need,

About Me

I have been a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist since 2000 and a BACP Accredited Counsellor since 2006. I work in Camberley, Surrey, as well as offering online therapy. I also run sessions weekly in Canary Wharf. I have worked full-time as a psychotherapist since 2006 so have a great deal of experience of working with clients with all kinds of difficulties.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I am very experienced at working with different types of anxiety - social anxiety, health anxiety, performance anxiety - and I use a variety of approaches here, including cognitive and behavioural ones. Sometimes anxiety is driven by deeper issues, sometimes it is influenced by negative beliefs about the self or other people. I find it important to treat anxiety both at the symptomatic and the deeper level, for more long-lasting change.
I have a great deal of experience of working with depression - and again employ a variety of approaches. I find that depression normally has a variety of causes and drivers - and that this varies enormously between people. Having a large repertoire of approaches and 25+ years of experience, helps me to support people to move beyond their depression and sustain the improvement.
Difficulties with family relationships usually benefit from a psychodynamic approach, but sometimes the focus can be very 'here and now' and pragmatic depending upon a particular client's situation. I can support clients to achieve a greater depth of understanding of family relationships and patterns as well as making personal choices to change family relationships.
I have worked with couples in the past and done specific couples training. And relationship difficulties, especially repeating patterns in relationship are something that I work with constantly, even with only one person in the room. Relationships, particularly intimate relationships, but also friendships and family relationships are the source of a lot of pain in people's lives. Here the psychodynamic approach is really very helpful to understanding and changing difficult dynamics and relationships with difficult people.
The stress of modern life grows ever greater, whatever life stage you are at. Help learning to identify stress, manage stress, make changes to reduce stress - is also part of my work.
