My Approach

My approach is collaborative and integrative, meaning I adapt the way we work to suit you as an individual. Therapy is not about giving advice or telling you what to do, but about helping you better understand yourself, your patterns, and your emotional responses, so you can make choices that feel right for you. I aim to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly, explore difficult feelings, and develop greater self-awareness, resilience, and self-compassion.

About Me

Hello, I’m Helen Bowden, an Integrative Psychotherapist. I am also a registered nurse and public health practitioner, which brings a broad and compassionate understanding of both mental and physical wellbeing into my therapeutic work. I offer a warm, confidential, and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about whatever is going on for you. I work with a diverse range of clients and tailor therapy to your individual needs. My goal is always to help you understand yourself and find ways forward that feel right for you. I have a particular interest and experience in women’s health, including maternal mental health and the emotional and psychological impact of peri and postmenopausal change. Alongside this, my nursing background enables me to offer support with a wide range of life experiences, including anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction and relationship difficulties. I offer in-person sessions in the Solihull area, as well as online and telephone appointments, allowing flexibility to suit your circumstances. Taking the step to seek therapy can feel daunting. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin - therapy is a space to explore, reflect and move at your own pace.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have experience working therapeutically with addiction and the complex emotional, psychological and relational difficulties that can underpin addictive behaviours. My approach is compassionate and non-judgemental, supporting clients to explore the roots of their addiction, understand underlying patterns, develop self-awareness and work towards recovery, resilience and lasting change at their own pace.
I have a particular interest in maternal mental health, fertility-related emotional challenges, hormonal changes and menopause. I offer a compassionate, supportive space to explore the psychological impact of these life transitions, including anxiety, low mood, identity changes and relationship difficulties, helping clients feel understood and supported through periods of change.
I have experience supporting clients experiencing anxiety, including persistent worry, panic, overthinking and difficulties managing everyday life. My therapeutic approach provides a safe, compassionate space to explore underlying causes, understand emotional patterns and develop healthier ways of coping, helping clients build confidence, resilience and a greater sense of control and wellbeing.
I offer compassionate, non-judgemental support to individuals experiencing bereavement and loss. I recognise that grief is deeply personal and can affect emotional wellbeing, relationships and everyday life. Therapy provides a safe space to process feelings, navigate life changes and find ways to move forward whilst honouring the significance of the loss.
My background in nursing, alongside my experience as a psychotherapist, enables me to understand the complex relationship between physical health and emotional wellbeing. I support clients experiencing health-related anxiety, chronic illness, and the psychological impact of diagnosis, treatment and life-changing health conditions with empathy and understanding.
