My Approach

- I aim to make all members of a family feel listened to and understood, by myself and each other.
-I try to understand how past experiences of all family members, including past generations of the family, have made you the way you are and impact on how you feel and behave in the present.
-I work with families to reduce blame and build on the strengths of connection, shared experience and love that sometimes get lost when times are challenging
-I am transparent about my thinking, willing to be challenged about my ideas and to gently challenge family members in order to effect positive change.
-I actively liaise with wider systems (education/social care/voluntary sector) to share my ideas and access support for the young person and family
-I celebrate the ideas and experience that diversity can bring, while acknowledging the challenges that accompany each individuals experience

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have extensive experience of working with children and young people with Autism, as well as with neurodiverse families, and am committed to helping schools meet the needs of neurodiverse students.
When a relationship is ending it is hard to be the parent you want to be. Learning how to talk about a break up with your child, how to support them through the process and how to co-parent with an ex partner can make a huge difference to how well your child adapts to their new circumstances. Taking the time to explore this, either together or separately, can help you feel more in control and establish positive relationships for the future.
I see families as the most important resource for young people and understand how important it is to work within the values and culture of each individual family. I aim to support connections between family members and ensure that all voices are heard, in order that you can work together, with me, to improve family life.
Parenting young children and teenagers can be hard work, and can impact on your relationships, your work and your own mental health. I can work with you to help you make sense of your feelings, and worries about your child, and make changes to improve family life and your relationship with your child.
I have extensive experience of working in mainstream and special schools and can offer training and supervision to staff groups on a one-off or regular basis. Schools report that this helps them understand challenging behaviour and mental health difficulties from a different perspective. I can collaborate with you to develop classroom management strategies for individuals or class groups and help senior staff, teachers or support staff feel empowered to meet the needs of complex young people
