My Approach

I have many years of experience working with individuals, couples and families who want to make sense of their lives, relationships and choices.

My approach is grounded in thoughtful conversation, creating a space where you can slow down, reflect, and look honestly at what is working for you and what is not.

My work is mainly shaped by an existential perspective. In simple terms, this means that I am interested in how you experience your life and the choices you make within it. Rather than seeing difficulties simply as symptoms to be removed, we can explore what they might tell us about how you are living, relating to others and responding to the circumstances you find yourself in.

I don't believe therapy is about someone else telling you how to live your life. My role is to help you understand yourself and your situation more clearly, recognise patterns that may be limiting you, and explore different ways of responding.

I am an active and engaged therapist. I will listen carefully, but I will also ask questions, offer observations and sometimes challenge you to look at something differently. Therapy with me is a conversation rather than a process in which you are expected to do all the talking.

Although my work is primarily existential, I also draw on CBT, NLP, mindfulness, coaching and hypnotherapy where these may be useful. I don't believe one approach fits everyone, and how we work will depend on you and what you want from therapy.

*** How I Can Help ***

== Individual Therapy ==

You don't need to be in crisis to come to therapy.

You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, confidence, relationships, work or family life. You may be facing a significant decision or change, questioning the direction your life has taken, or simply have a sense that something isn't quite right.

Sometimes the difficulty is less easy to name. You might feel stuck, dissatisfied or disconnected, find yourself repeating the same patterns, or realise that the way you have been living no longer feels right.

Therapy gives you somewhere to explore these questions without having to arrive with the answers already worked out.

== Couples & Relationships ==

Couples often come to therapy when they have become stuck in the same conversations and arguments, sometimes over many years.

Communication may have broken down. There may be difficulties around trust, intimacy, sex, parenting, family, culture, money or different expectations of the relationship. Sometimes one or both partners are questioning whether they still want to be together.

My role is not to decide who is right or wrong. I help you slow the conversation down and understand what is happening between you: what each of you is trying to communicate, the patterns you have developed and why it has become so difficult to hear one another.

Couples therapy is not always about keeping a relationship together at all costs. It can also provide a space to think honestly about what each of you wants and, where necessary, how to separate with greater understanding and less conflict.

== Identity, Culture & Belonging ==

Questions of identity and belonging can affect our relationships, choices and sense of ourselves in ways that are not always immediately obvious.

I have particular experience working with cultural and ethnic identity, race, mixed relationships, belonging and the expectations that can come from family, community and culture.

You may find yourself caught between different cultures, values or expectations, or trying to work out which parts of your identity genuinely feel like your own.

Therapy can provide a space in which these questions can be explored openly, without assuming that there is one correct way for you to live.

== Life Changes, Choices & Feeling Stuck ==

There are times when life asks us to reconsider things we previously took for granted.

This can happen following a relationship change, becoming a parent, children leaving home, changes in work, bereavement, ageing, retirement or simply reaching a point where you begin to question what you want from the next part of your life.

At other times there may be no obvious event at all. You may simply have reached a point where the life you have built no longer feels quite like the life you want.

These are particularly important questions within existential therapy. We can explore what matters to you, the choices available to you and what may be getting in the way of making them.

== How We Work Together ==

I offer both short-term and longer-term therapy.

You may have a particular problem or decision that you want to focus on over a relatively small number of sessions, or you may want the opportunity to explore yourself, your relationships and longstanding patterns in greater depth.

We can begin with an initial assessment where we talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you would like to get from it and whether working together feels right.

About Me

I am an experienced psychotherapist, couples counsellor and mediator, working with individuals, couples and families.

I work with people facing a wide range of difficulties, including relationship problems, anxiety, depression, low confidence, identity and cultural issues, bereavement, major life changes and periods of feeling stuck or uncertain about the future.

A significant part of my work is with couples and relationship difficulties. I help people explore problems with communication, recurring conflict, trust and intimacy, as well as situations where one or both partners may be questioning the future of the relationship.

I also work with questions of identity, culture and belonging, and with people navigating conflicting expectations within themselves, their relationships, families or communities.

I offer a thoughtful, engaged and non-judgemental space in which we can explore what is happening in your life and what you would like to change. I work in person in North London and online.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I work with people experiencing anxiety, worry, fear, stress or feeling overwhelmed. We can explore what may be contributing to these feelings, how they affect your life and relationships, and find ways of responding differently rather than simply trying to manage the symptoms.
I work with couples experiencing difficulties with communication, conflict, trust, intimacy, separation or uncertainty about their relationship. I also work with individuals who want to explore difficulties in any of their relationships, whether with a partner, family member, friend or colleague, including recurring patterns, boundaries and difficult conversations.
I work with people experiencing depression, low mood, loss of motivation or a sense of disconnection from themselves or their lives. Therapy can help us explore what lies behind these feelings, including relationships, loss, difficult experiences and questions about meaning, direction and the future.
I work with people experiencing work-related stress, conflict, difficult professional relationships, redundancy, career change or uncertainty about what they want from their working lives. These difficulties can also raise wider questions about confidence, identity, purpose, success and the balance between work and the rest of your life.
I work with people exploring questions about who they are, where they belong and how they want to live. This can include cultural or racial identity, sexuality, gender, spirituality, ageing, belonging, and conflicts between your own values and the expectations of family, relationships, culture or society.
