I use a basically psychodynamic approach, influenced by my experience in family therapy and short term work as a student counsellor.
I have 38 years of experience as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Counsellor in private practice and public sector settings in both the UK and New Zealand. Now living in New Zealand I have returned to private practice after 5 years as Deputy Head of the University of Glasgow Counselling and Psychological Services and 2 years of private practice in Glasgow. My work can be both long and short term, by self referral or via GPs and Employee Assistance Programmes. I'm also a supervisor of therapists and those undertaking professional training as counsellors, psychologists and psychotherapists. I have a particular interests in working with artists, with young people and those who, in their later years, wish to make sense of their lives against the backdrop of their family and ancestral heritage.
I can offer face to face sessions in Wellington and online sessions to clients and supervisees in NZ and overseas (except USA and Canada) via Skype, Zoom, Teams or Facetime.
Currently I can only offer limited online sessions. This may change at the beginning of 2023.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
