My Approach

I work integratively, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches rather than believing that one way of working suits everyone. My approach is trauma-informed and relational, with a particular interest in attachment and in understanding how earlier experiences and relationships can continue to shape the way we see ourselves, relate to others and respond to situations in the present.
Therapy with me is collaborative and led by what feels most helpful for you. We might explore patterns in relationships, thoughts and feelings, make connections between past and present experiences, or develop a greater understanding of why certain situations or emotions feel particularly difficult.
I place importance on emotional safety, choice and pacing. There is no expectation to talk about anything before you feel ready. My aim is to offer a space where you can feel heard and understood, while gently exploring what may sit beneath some of the difficulties you are experiencing.
I believe the therapeutic relationship itself is an important part of the work, and that meaningful change often develops through feeling safe enough to be curious about ourselves in a different way.

About Me

Hi, I’m Emma. I’m a UKCP accredited Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with a BSc (Hons) in Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling.
I work with adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, low mood, relationship difficulties and life transitions. I also work with the quieter struggles that can be harder to name, but can still have a significant impact on how we feel about ourselves, our relationships and everyday life.
Before becoming a counsellor, I worked for many years within social care, supporting people through difficult circumstances and periods of change. This experience continues to inform my therapeutic work and my understanding of how our experiences, relationships and environments can shape us.
I bring warmth, compassion and curiosity to my work, alongside genuine respect for each person’s individual experience.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I support people to explore and understand what may sit beneath anxiety, including patterns of thinking, relationships and past experiences. Alongside finding ways to manage anxiety in the present, we can develop a deeper understanding of what it may be communicating.
Grief is deeply personal and there is no right way or timescale in which to experience it. I offer space to explore loss and its emotional impact, including the complicated or conflicting feelings that can sometimes accompany bereavement.
Family relationships can shape our understanding of ourselves and others long into adulthood. I support clients to explore family dynamics, roles and patterns, including how experiences within our families may continue to influence relationships, emotions and sense of self.
I have a particular interest in attachment and relationships, exploring how earlier relational experiences can shape the way we connect with others in the present. Therapy can help us notice recurring patterns and develop a greater understanding of our needs and ways of relating.
I work in a trauma-informed way, supporting people to understand how difficult or overwhelming experiences can continue to affect emotions, relationships and responses in the present. I place particular importance on safety, choice and working at a pace that feels manageable.
