About Me

I am a BACP Registered Psychotherapist working with adult individuals in Cambridge (CB1) and online.

I view therapy first and foremost as a safe harbour. From this harbour, we can start to face and unravel the questions that bring you to therapy. I will join you in exploring what is happening with you and in your life that has left you feeling anxious, low, numb, distressed or struggling. In my experience, this exploration often takes us to the core dilemmas of being human. These dilemmas may have to do with how you find yourself in the world, how your past informs your present, how you relate to others, and what matters to you.

I aim to facilitate the kind of dialogue where we enter into these dilemmas together, and to facilitate the kind of atmosphere that allows you to hear your own experience in answering them.

I work with adult individuals who are seeking deeper understanding of themselves, their experiences, and their context. This means I work with people across a range of situations, identities and histories. Rather than treating you as a member of a category or a statistic, my approach centres the uniqueness of the person in front of me.

My Approach

I primarily work with a style of therapy called existential psychotherapy. This form of therapy is grounded in existential philosophy rather than psychology. As such, it does not seek to interpret the challenges of human existence through the lens of disorder or illness. Instead, this approach connects us to the existential concerns and dilemmas we all face as part of being human, and invites us to notice, describe and honour our unique ways of responding to these dilemmas.

As part of this approach, we will practice taking a phenomenological stance to lived experience. Without overcomplicating it, this means taking the time to pay attention to and describe what you are experiencing in the present moment. Slowing down in this way might challenge us to remember and consider what you have experienced in the past and how this history shapes our way of perceiving things now. It might require us to find new language that more precisely captures what you are experiencing. It might lead us toward unexpected forms of emotional expression.

At the heart of any therapy process is the relationship we build together. This is ultimately more important than any philosophy or technique we might bring to the therapy. I hope to build a relationship with you that feels warm, open, and honest.
