My Approach

Whilst there can be a specific reason to seek therapy, it’s not always clear. At any age we can find ourselves out of our depth or in the midst of despair.

I aim to help you discover and address the root of your problems, rather than tending to your symptoms. I practice in a gentle, collaborative way - at all times working in your best interests

I work in-person at The Practice Rooms in Oxford and I offer sessions via Zoom

About Me

I provide psychodynamic psychotherapy to adults

My approach involves once-weekly or twice-weekly sessions to explore your situation. Such frequency helps build momentum in our work together, enabling you to better understand and come to terms with your circumstances

I work with

  • Individuals
  • Private healthcare referrals

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Anxiety describes what we feel when we are worried, tense or afraid, often about things that are about to happen, or which we think could happen in the future. It can involve persistent thoughts, feeling nervous and often physical sensations, like a churning stomach, increased heart rate, faster breathing and difficulty sleeping. There are times, though, when feelings of anxiety can be intense and long lasting and worries can feel very upsetting and difficult to control. It can be hard to overcome such strong anxiety alone. Your fears may be out of proportion to your situation or you avoid people and situations that cause you to feel anxious. By exploring the situations that trigger your anxious feelings, and by unpicking some of your history, we have a chance to make sense of why you become fearful and unsettled. We can work together to get you to a point where you can manage your anxiety, rather than being overwhelmed or limited by it.
Healthy relationships can be hard to achieve. The way we have been parented will have a strong impact on the way we have learned to connect with others and how we communicate and express our feelings and, in turn, how we get along with friends, family, intimate partners and those we encounter in our every day lives. You may have learned to bottle up feelings, or to talk about everything no matter how personal. You may have learned to expect rejection, or to crave independence. You might be very afraid of being alone. Difficulties might arise if: you suffer with low self-esteem you strongly fear losing someone’s love, or being abandoned you are afraid of, and struggle to be alone you feel jealous, or find it difficult to trust you have been expected to be strong, successful and to cope on your own you always believe that you are right and have to win arguments you dislike to, or are unable to show your feelings, or to say what you are thinking you fear upset and conflict, or think that it is impolite to disagree you don’t like, or are unable to receive help or support. If you are familiar with any of the above then I can understand why you might be seeking my help. Even being aware of familiar issues, does not prevent us from carrying on in ways that can negatively affect our relationships and perhaps upset those around us, as well as ourselves. I can help you to think about what is going on for you and, by gently talking through your experiences with me, I can help you to make sense of your behaviour and reactions. Also, without knowing it, you might behave with me in a way that reveals some of your relating habits. I will let you know what I notice and how I experience you, as it might be something that is occuring in all your relationships, and not just the one you build with me. With time and awareness you may be able to bring change to the way you feel in your relationships and in turn how you connect with others, potentially leading to more healthy, meaningful experiences.
