Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have personal and professional experience in addiction and worked for 12 years in a substance dependency organisation. I'm familiar with 12 step recovery and work with clients who are now abstinent from daily use and are ready to explore developmental history, relationships and creating the life they want.
I have personal and professional experience of working with those who present, diagnosed or not, with ADHD traits and challenges. I work alongside clients to support the repair from years of masking, being misunderstood, being micro-aggressed against and who want better control of their life and to accept themselves more freely.
I see relationships in many forms. Those with ourselves, others, animals, nature, childhood, politics, money........and so on. I explore the clients meaning of them, how they view themselves in relation to their relationships and how and where patterns have formed, the impact and where they might become stuck because of repeated experiences of rupture, confusion or trauma. In the significant relationship between myself and my client, I offer the space for congruence, honesty, checking out projections and meeting authentically so that a more healthy way of relating in all forms can begin.
As MH issues rise in response to post COVID, current environmental pressures, economic chaos, a changing political landscape and other anxiety provoking issues then so to do suicide rates across all population groups. Whether a client is reaching a life stage, suffered intense loss, has an identity or existential crisis, then attention to the lived experience and the fantasy/urge of ending it must be held carefully and honestly in the therapy room. I work with acknowledging the space they're in, giving room for the possibility of life and death and work with helping the client find their voice, expression of their shame and retroflected anger and mobilise out of the spiral.
I work somatically, phenomenologically and relationally in supporting trauma, responses, developmental rupture, dysregulation and healing. I will be training in EMDR in 2027.
