My Approach

I work within the tradition of Biodynamic Body Psychotherapy, integrating neurofeedback and martial arts into a body-based approach to healing. I specialise in the treatment of trauma, working with the nervous system as much as the mind to support lasting change.

About Me

Dr Elya Steinberg is a British-Israeli biodynamic psychotherapist, non-binary, trained at the Gerda Boyesen Centre, and identifies as Jewish-Buddhist. They are a physician, UKCP-registered, and a member of the EABP.
They served as joint director of the London School of Biodynamic Psychotherapy for almost eleven years (2005-2010 and 2014-2019), and headed its academic studies between 2014 and 2023. They chaired the EABP's Training Standards Committee from 2020 to 2024.
They lecture and supervise at the Minster Centre and at Regent's University London, and also work in private practice. In addition, they are an MSc student in Applied Neuroscience at King's College London, and a cancer survivor.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

As a cancer survivor myself, I have personal experience to draw on when working with cancer patients, allowing me to support them through the challenging sequence of processes they face, with genuine understanding of what that journey involves.
Drawing on personal experience, I have explored the ways spirituality can offer connection to the higher qualities of the self, while also acknowledging the conflicts that can arise from it. Central to this is an examination of the differences between unity and separation, and the profound impact this distinction has on us as individuals.
I have decades of experience in supervision, both in private practice and within institutions such as the London School for Biodynamic Psychotherapy, Regent's University, and The Minster Centre. At heart, I am a body psychotherapist, and my particular passion lies in the integration of modalities, ensuring that psychotherapists have the fullest possible range of approaches available to them in practice.
As a trainer, I bring decades of experience gained across private settings and institutions including the London School for Biodynamic Psychotherapy, Regent's University, and The Minster Centre. My speciality is body psychotherapy, which looks at the embodiment of the psychological process, and I am driven by a commitment to integrating different modalities, so that practitioners can draw on the widest possible toolkit in their clinical work.
I have extensive experience working with people who have experienced psychological trauma and its resulting complex post-traumatic stress disorder. This manifests not only as mental representations, but also as body manifestations, and my work addresses both, combining talking therapy with movement, touch, and breathwork. In addition, I integrate biofeedback methods, including neurofeedback, along with aspects of martial arts, into the psychotherapeutic process.
