Relationships are at the heart of the human experience and building both a strong connection to yourself and between you and your counsellor is vital to successful therapy. I believe it is important for me to be a human first, and a counsellor second, which I hope will help you to more easily relate to and form a therapeutic bond with me. I am open and honest, including about my own limits and imperfections, with the intention to encourage you to become more comfortable to talk openly about your own thoughts, feelings and behaviours and also feel confident in voicing what you find more or less helpful in our sessions together.
All humans are unique individuals, with different needs and therefore I aim to maintain a flexible and creative approach to counselling which reflects this. One approach isn't helpful for everyone and I am keen to consider all theoretical approaches in working together to find a combination of methods that works best for you.
I strive to to offer a space that feels calm, comfortable and secure to allow you to build trust. Alongside academic theory, I also draw on creative elements of practice, working with music and art, where appropriate, to access unconscious thoughts and feelings (only if you are comfortable with this. I've seen the terror in some people's eyes when I've asked if they'd like to paint something and I completely understand!)
I am a fully qualified integrative and psychotherapeutic counsellor, which means my approach combines different modalities of counselling theory, including psychodynamic, humanistic, existential, person- centred, CBT, somatic and creative arts. I aim to support clients to explore the impact of past events and experiences, attachment patterns, trauma and relationships to gain insight into what is happening in the 'here and now'.
It is my belief and personal experience that counselling can be a truly positive, transformative process but I also acknowledge that it is hard work and, at times, painful. I am committed to supporting my clients through providing warmth, empathy and non- judgement to engage in the challenge of change to achieve their goals, understand themselves better and improve their lives and relationships long term.
I am happy to walk alongside you, every step of the way in that transformation.
' Commit to loving yourself completely. It's the most radical thing you will do in your lifetime'–Andrea Gibson.
Hi, my name is Elodie. Thanks for stopping by to look at my profile!
Finding a counsellor who you are comfortable speaking with is a really important part of successful therapy. To give this full consideration, I offer a FREE 30 minute consultation online or in person to all potential new clients, which gives you the opportunity to see how you feel about working with me before making any commitment to sessions.
I currently work as a counsellor at St Barnabas Counselling Centre and as a Volunteer Counsellor at Big C in Norwich, having also worked previously as a volunteer counsellor at MIND.
Through my own life experiences and training, I have developed a particular interest and skills in supporting people through the impacts of PTSD, CPTSD, narcissistic abuse, family estrangement, attachment disorder, domestic violence, sexual abuse, gender and identity related issues, bullying, cancer diagnosis and treatment, bereavement, work related stress, anxiety and substance misuse.
Before completing my training as an integrative and psychotherapeutic counsellor, I worked as a self- employed artist and in various roles within secondary education, including intervention and student wellbeing which included supporting and advocating for young people with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Anxiety and issues related to sexuality, gender and identity.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
