My Approach

Therapy often helps by offering a safe space to explore thoughts, feelings and worries. Talking therapy, with a skilled practitioner, can give a deeper understanding of personal issues and help to establish individual coping strategies in order to face life's challenges and build resilience.
Predominantly, engaging in a good therapeutic relationship which enables the client to have an open and honest dialogue about any factors which cause distress is of vital importance in any therapy. Setting up a routine appointment within a regular setting helps to develop trust and a safe place from which to explore, understand and make progress.
Therapy helps people to gain an understanding of self, and other, and locate patterns of relating and difficulties with self image and self confidence which may have been developed in childhood that can impact mental health in the here and now. Therapy can also help with personal feelings connected with loss, relationship problems, traumatic events, daily stress and pressure, or struggles with self esteem.

About Me

I am a psychoanalytic, psychodynamic psychotherapist working with adults - individuals and groups. I have over twenty years of experience in this field, spending the last twelve years in NHS Secondary Care services, helping people with complex, severe and enduring mental health difficulties. I have a Private Practice in South Wales working face-to-face, online, and by telephone.
I am highly empathic, listening and responding to the needs of the client and negotiating the most helpful way of working with each individual.
Although my background is in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, over my years within the NHS, I have developed an integrative and eclectic way of working using different modalities and current approaches.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Having originally qualified as a Bereavement Counsellor, this speciality has always remained of particular interest to me and I feel that loss of any important person and the resulting impact can cause profound changes to a persons sense of self. Gaining the right support at the right time is vital.
Having recently trained in EMDR, I find it helpful in treating people with PTSD and Trauma.
Early relationships with parental figures are key to how a person develops and feels about their self throughout life. Having studied and worked with attachment issues my entire career I have developed an approach which maintains a safe and secure space to explore these issues.
Having worked extensively with adults who have experienced childhood sexual abuse I have been able to examine and explore the complexities and emotional responses which can lead to relationship difficulties and identity issues. A person may be abused at any stage in life and gaining support to talk through the issues associated with this can be tremendously helpful in regaining stability.
In my practice I work with people who have encountered a spiritual dilemma and need to work with associated issues.
