About Me

I work with individuals as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and as a clinical supervisor for therapists, counsellors and trainees.
• Registered with the UKCP in 2000 within the psychoanalytic section of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (CPJA)
• Full member of AGIP, The Association of Group and Individual Psychotherapy.
I hold the belief that unconscious processes shape our behaviour and our lives and that we don’t know as much about ourselves as we think we do.
The unconscious is, as the word suggests, ‘un’-conscious but manifests in dreams, symptoms and patterns of behaviour. We may recognise these patterns and know that they may adversely affect our relationships with others but find ourselves persistently repeating them.
One of the aims of psychoanalytic psychotherapy is to understand ourselves better, to think and reflect on why we do what we do in order to effect some change and live happier and more satisfying lives.
More positively, the unconscious is also a source of creativity and imagination and can be a rich source of material to explore within the therapy setting.
My background profession was as a clinician in the NHS where I worked for 40 years and gained extensive knowledge and experience across the field of community and forensic mental health.
I have been involved in the work of therapeutic communities as an alternative to hospital admission.
I have 25 years experience working as an advisor for the Parents Information Service for Young Minds, a children’s charity primarily concerned with the mental health of children and young people.
I hold an interest in transgenerational trauma whereby children of traumatised parents are affected directly or indirectly by their parents post traumatic experience/s.
I work one to one with adults of all ages at a frequency of one to three times weekly.
Sessions are for 50 minutes. Fees can be discussed and concessions considered for students and trainees.
Standard fees £60 to £70. I practice in N4 in a ground floor premises. There is street parking with a 2 hour CPZ between 12 and 2pm. The nearest station is Finsbury Park.
I see people who want to understand themselves and their behaviour better. They may come with feelings of depression, anxiety, stress, loss, and trauma, difficulty fitting in or finding their place in the world or where relationships have been affected by internal or external conflicts/circumstances. Whilst I see people who are in crisis, it is perhaps worth considering that therapy might be helpful at any point in our lives, including when things feel safe enough to explore neglected areas of our emotional well being.
