My Approach

Are you finding life difficult at the moment? Perhaps you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or as though you are going round in circles mentally. You may be struggling to make sense of what you are feeling, or simply need somewhere safe to talk about what is going on in your life. I offer a warm, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can slow down, make sense of what you are experiencing, and begin to explore what might help.

I have worked with clients that for whatever reason find themselves struggling. Often my clients want to find out who they really are and what they need, it is common for my clients to investigate who they would have become if certain situations had not happened.

I believe therapy is ultimately about being able to talk openly and honestly with another person who will listen without judgement. Taking those first steps towards getting support for yourself can feel daunting. I can’t promise that therapy will always be easy, but through my own experience of therapy, I have learnt how valuable it can be to give ourselves the time, space and safety to talk openly about what we are experiencing. Having a confidential space where we can be heard without judgement can enable us to understand ourselves more deeply.

Qualified Relational Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, UKCP registered, with a comfortable, confidential private practice in central Beverley, East Yorkshire. Before becoming a therapist, I had a career in business. Following the sale of my corporate business in 2019, a decision was made to retrain and pursue a career in psychotherapy and counselling. This career change came from a desire to develop a deeper understanding of people, relationships and the experiences that can shape how we feel and respond to life. Coming from a creative background, I am also interested in finding different ways for people to explore and express what they are experiencing. Talking is not always the easiest way to communicate everything we feel, and where appropriate, I can incorporate creative approaches into our work together.

You don't have to have everything worked out before you arrive, and you don't need to know exactly what you want from therapy. We can explore that together, at a pace that feels right for you.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Addiction can become a way of coping with difficult feelings, experiences or circumstances, even when the behaviour is beginning to cause problems in other areas of life. It can bring feelings of shame, guilt or frustration, and it can be difficult to understand why stopping or changing feels so hard. Therapy can provide a non-judgemental space to explore what may be behind these patterns and begin to understand what you need to cope differently.
Anxiety can leave you feeling overwhelmed, on edge or caught in a constant cycle of worry and overthinking. It can affect relationships, confidence, decision-making and everyday life. Sometimes it can be difficult to understand what is underneath the anxiety or why certain situations feel so difficult. Therapy can offer space to slow things down, understand what you are experiencing and explore what might help.
Experiencing domestic violence, abuse or controlling behaviour can have a profound and lasting impact. It can affect how you see yourself, your relationships and your sense of safety, sometimes long after the relationship has ended. Therapy can provide a safe, confidential space to begin making sense of what has happened, explore its impact and consider what you need for yourself now.
Relationships can bring some of the most rewarding and most difficult experiences in our lives. The ways we relate to others can be shaped by our earlier experiences, and sometimes we can find ourselves repeating patterns without understanding why. You may find yourself struggling to communicate what you need, finding it difficult to trust, becoming anxious about relationships or feeling that you lose yourself within them. Therapy can provide a space to explore these experiences and understand what may be happening beneath the surface. It can help you begin to recognise patterns in your relationships, understand where they may have come from and explore what you need from yourself and from others.
Exploring gender and identity can bring a range of different feelings and experiences. You may feel certain about who you are, be questioning or unsure, or find that your sense of identity has changed over time. There may also be challenges around relationships, family, acceptance or how you feel in the world. Therapy can provide a space to explore these experiences openly and without judgement, without needing to have everything worked out beforehand. It can be a place to make sense of your own experiences, rather than feeling you need to fit into other people’s expectations or definitions of who you are.
