My Approach

I work relationally which means that I view relationships as a key influence on how we all experience the world. I am open to learning about the relationships you have with others and also with yourself and what your feelings about those relationships may be. This may change as our work together work progresses depending on what your hopes and needs may be.

Your therapy may involve thinking about past experiences and how those experiences have impacted you. When this is the case I am committed to keeping our work together grounded in the present and working with what the past feels like and means for you in the here-and-now.

Knowledge is power and I feel passionately about being open to sharing the thinking that informs my work if that is something that feels useful for you. The years of leaning and training I have undertaken have given me a wealth of experience and information that I am very happy to share.

Ultimately I am seeking to work in partnership with you to empower and help you move forward in your life independently and confidently, equipped to face the future whatever it may hold for you. I see it as a privilege to assist with that process.

About Me

The most common aim of therapy is to achieve some kind of change. What this change (or other aims) might be, why it's needed and how it might be achieved are all things that I work in partnership with my clients to identify and then work towards together.

My first experience of therapy, many years ago now, was as a client and this is something I always hold in mind in my work. I know what it is like to seek help and how nerve-wracking that can feel. I value the fact that we are all different and I approach my work with a non-judgemental curiosity which I hope is welcoming and supportive in establishing a strong alliance to explore whatever you choose to bring to your sessions.

It can take time to reach a place of deep and lasting change. It can also be a relief in the short term to have someone to share difficulties with. I am committed to learning about your individual needs to ensure we work at a pace that feels right for you.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Anxiety can manifest in many different ways. I see it as a natural, human reaction to life's challenges and a highly individual experience, unique to each person.
I value the diverse experience of people from all cultures and backgrounds, I have extensive experience of working with people from a wide range of backgrounds including those who have experienced persecution, marginalisation, displacement and also people with "alternative" lifestyles and living off grid. I have particular interest and insight into the increasing influence technology has on our lives, the impact of climate change an also the role creativity and community can play in supporting psychological and emotional wellbeing,
Families are the primary group many people have experience of. Our membership of them, or separateness from them, can have a huge impact on how we experience the world. Families and our feeling about them can also help highlight things that we may be struggling with and would like to change.
One of my areas of expertise is identifying how early personal experiences can negatively influence relationships and patterns of behaviour later in life and assisting in developing a way forward that hopefully feels both authentic and more fulfilling than where you might be at the moment.
Sexuality can be a key part of our identities and can be an important topic in therapy. I respect and work with people of all sexualities and gender identities. I am alive to the fact that there can be many layers of influence impacting sexuality including the thoughts and attitudes of others, societal pressures as well as the internal thoughts, feelings and wishes of the individual.
