My Approach

I am a humanistic counsellor and psychotherapist. My work draws on existential, phenomenological, gestalt, systemic and relational therapy. This incorporates my belief that every person is unique and thus my relationship with each client is unique. I aim to work in a way that welcomes your way of seeing and experiencing the world and affirms all parts of your identity including your age, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, culture, ability and neurodivergence.

I recognise that the relationship between you and your therapist is the most important element in facilitating change, and I bring my warmth, empathy, curiosity and compassion to my work. I firmly believe that a safe and compassionate relationship has the power to lead to meaningful change.

I previously worked in developmental psychology, worked with people with complex physical and communication needs, and specialised in providing social, emotional and mental health support to children and families in schools. I am interested in how our experiences and relationships as children shape who we are, our sense of self, and how we interact in the world. I bring this into my way of working, collaborating with you to make sense of your experiences and the impact that they have on you and your life.

I have previously been a counsellor at Macmillan Cancer Support and at As You Are, a low-cost counselling service, which I continue to be involved with.

Choosing the right therapist for you is important and I hope that you have found information here that helps you make that choice. Please contact me if you would like to ask any questions or would like to arrange to meet for an initial session to see if we are a good fit.

About Me

Hello. My name is Charlotte. I am a qualified humanistic counsellor and psychotherapist, and I bring warmth, empathy and hope to my work.

People come to therapy for a wide range of reasons. It might be that you are facing a specific issue or it could be that you feel something is wrong without knowing exactly what it is. You may feel that you have some unresolved issues from your past or perhaps you are experiencing relationship issues. You might be experiencing anxiety or depression, trauma or loss, or you may feel alone or stuck in some way.
Life has many ways of being challenging; therapy offers both support and the opportunity to understand the way you are, how that impacts your life, and what that means for you.

I believe that a trusted therapeutic relationship creates space for acceptance, growth and change. I offer a non-judgemental, supportive space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and anything that may be troubling you. I hope to enable you to feel safe to bring all the parts of yourself, your life and your identity. Through my curiosity and attunement to what it feels like to be you, we will together be able to encounter the patterns and choices that no longer serve you and make sense of situations, feelings and relationships. I can help you face your issues with increased clarity and insight which may enable you to feel you have more choices and feel more empowered in these choices, or increasingly self-assured or resilient.
